The Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) has issued a statement urging mohelim — those who perform ritual circumcisions — to perform the suction portion of the brit milah using a sterile tube and to avoid direct contact between the mohel’s mouth and the infant.
The New York-based RCA, which serves more than 1,000 Orthodox rabbis in the United States and Canada, said there are no religious or medical reasons to avoid using a tube to perform the “metzitzah be’peh,” the suctioning of the wound that is part of ritual circumcisions.
One of the infants was born in Toronto in 1994.

 Orthodox Judaism and Jewish-Christian Dialogue
The Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) and the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations (OU) represent the rabbinic and congregational segment of the Orthodoxy that is usually not referred to as right-wing Orthodoxy.
Because the RCA and the OU belong[ed] to the Synagogue Council of America (SCA) which, in addition to the Orthodox rabbinic and congregational bodies mentioned also include[d] their Conservative and Reform counterparts, and because the SCA operate[d] on a principle of unanimity, the Orthodox rejection of theological dialogue [became] the policy of the SCA.

 Rabbi Mordecai Tendler
Critics of the Rabbinical Council of America are blasting the group for giving Rabbi Mordecai Tendler and his attorney, Arnold Kriss, a copy of an internal report on the sexual harassment allegations, including the names of women who claimed Tendler harassed them.
Given the way the RCA, under the leadership of rabbi Basil Herring, turned over its investigation files to rabbi Mordecai Tendler (after telling some of the women who say they were victimized by Tendler that their reports would be kept confidential), you'd think rabbi Herring and the RCA would be less huffy and self righteous.
As with all other professional organizations and societies, the RCA is permitted to establish its own criteria for its membership, legislate rules of member conduct, investigate in a manner of its choosing possible violations of its rules, and suspend or expel those members it deems in breach of those rules.

Whether traditional Judaism was sublimated to the trifaith religious life of America or whether it underwent a Protestantization, the bottom line was that as second and third generation American Jewish immigrants took their place in American life, the erosion of traditional Jewish Orthodoxy had taken hold.
From 1945, members of the Rabbinical Council participated in the Synagogue Council of America and the New York Board of Rabbis, interdenominational groups that advocated Jewish causes in multiple spheres.
Though the Rabbinical Council's position encouraging interdenominational cooperation in certain circumstances was policy before Rabbi Soloveitchik's involvement with the organization, it was his influence and character that led to this becoming ensconced within the Orthodox community.

Sadly, the RCA was not up to the challenge presented by these publications and allowed itself to be stampeded into abandoning halachic propriety and victimizing the rabbi in order to avoid being labelled as "soft" on sexual abuse.

The idea that a pulpit rabbi should be disciplined by the RCA`s Vaad Hakavod for being at odds with the establishment view of the disengagement issue is one that should have been rejected out of hand.
