Rabbulas - Catholic Encyclopedia - Catholic Online
The zeal with which Rabbulas endeavoured to suppress Theodore's writings was unfairly attributed by Ibas, in his letters to Maris, to personal rancour against the memory of the deceased (Ibas' letter was read at the Council of Chalcedon and may be found in Labbe, Hardouin, Mansi, or Hefele).
Rabbulas' Syriac translation of St. Cyril's "De Fide Recta" was first published by Philip Pusey (Oxford, 1877).
According to Burkitt, "St. Ephraim's quotations from the Gospel" (Cambridge Texts and Studies, VII, 2) and "Evangelion Da Mephareshe" (Cambridge, 1901), Rabbulas was the author of the Peshitto.

The literary remains of Rabbula are small in bulk, and are mostly to be found in Overbeck.
Perhaps his main importance to the historian of Syriac literature lies in the zeal with which he strove to replace the Diatessaron or Gospel Harmony of Tatian by the edition of the separate Gospels, ordering that a copy of the latter should be placed in every church and should Overbeck, op.
FC Burkitt went further and advanced the hypothesis that Rabbula, at least as regards the Gospels, actively helped in the translation of the current Peshitta text, using the Greek text as read in Antioch about 400.

 Tatian
The Syrian church possessed and used the Gospel from the very beginning until the time of Rabbulas only in the form of the Diatessaron; it is probable, therefore, that Tatian not only brought the Diatessaron into Syria, but also developed there a successful missionary activity in the last quarter of the second century.
A later age did not realize that the Syrian ascetic tendencies had been transmitted from Semitic primitive Christianity, hence it regarded Tatian as a sectarian, the head of the Encratites.
Rabbulas, Bishop of Edessa, ordered the priests and deacons to see that every church should have a copy of the separate Gospels (Evangelion da Mepharreshe), and Theodoret, Bishop of Cyrus, removed more than two hundred copies of the Diatesseron from the churches in his diocese.

 RABBULAS
Rabbulas (or Rabbula) was bishop of Edessa (411 - 435).
However, his successor Ibas, who was in charge of the school of Edessa, reversed the official stance of that bishopric.
FC Burkitt proposed the theory that Rabbulas was responsible for the Peshitta, the Syriac translation of the Bible, based on a life of the bishop written around AD 450.

Seine Gegner beschuldigten in der Folgezeit den "kecken und ungeistlichen" Bischof (Dioskur) der Simonie und des Nepotismus sowie der Unterschlagung kirchlichen Eigentums.
