		The Cold War (as apposed to a hot, active war such as the world wars) was the open yet restricted rivalry that developed after World War II between the United States and its allies and the Soviet Union and its allies.
		The Cold War was waged by means of economic pressure, selective aid, diplomatic maneuver, propaganda, assassination, low-intensity military operations and full-scale proxy war from 1947 until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
		The Cold War is usually considered to have occurred approximately from the end of the strained alliance between the U.S. and the Soviet Union during World War II until the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991.

		I do not believe that World War II was a race war, but I do agree that race did play a part, as Rebecca said, to dehumanize an enemy makes it easier for men to kill the enemy.
		The propaganda used during the war did portray the Japanese as buck toothed, squinty eyed, and in some cases as apes, but it they also portrayed the buitality of the Japanese (Dower also points out that the Japanese also portrayed the brutality used by the Americans in their propaganda).
		I'm sure as America began to push towards Japan their was a superiority factor that came into play, but I find it hard to believe that there was that feeling in 1942 especially after Pearl Harbor, the Phillipines, and the 6 months of Japanese domination in the Pacific.

		I understand that there are many races throughout Asia and it is not fair to group them all into one.
		In high school, we also studied the issue of race during WWII, and I remember seeing a WWII era add explaining to the American people how to tell a Japanese enemy from a Chinese person.
