At the turn of the century, Kennywood was engaged in a fierce battle for survival with about a dozen other trolley parks and amusement resorts in Western Pennsylvania.
Kennywood prospered in the second half of the 1930's as new rides including Noah's Ark (1936) were added.
The Racer, a twin track-racing coaster, was built by the Ingersoll Brothers in 1910.

Kennywood discourages children under the age of thirteen from attending the park during Phantom Fright Nights as the atmosphere may be too intense for some younger children, but letting children attend is solely at the discretion of parents or guardians.

Kennywood is very fun and has a great selection of new and old rides; something for everyone.
Kennywood realized all that Arrow is good for is building smaller coasters (that aren’t rough), and they needed a new coaster, so good old Morgan was called in to redesign and rebuild the once-famous Steel Phantom.
Kennywood Park is one of the best parks in the country, and has one of the best collections of rides in the USA.

Kennywood's oldest coaster, the Jack Rabbit was built in 1920, and remains as it was when it first opened.
Kennywood has many other great attractions including the classic Noah's Ark fun house, Raging Rapids raft ride, Log Jammer flume ride, and the usual bumper cars, carousel,etc. The coasters are enough to entertain for a full day, but there are plenty of other great attractions.

Kennywood officials released what they called their "blue sky" wish list, which includes not only a water park and hotel, but additional parking, new food outlets and better access to the park.
As part of that effort, Kennywood released an economic study by Tripp Umbach and Associates Inc., showing that Kennywood Entertainment's net economic impact on the state is greater than that of the Pirates, the Steelers or Penn State University's campuses in Western Pennsylvania.
Kennywood's argument is that the tax was put in place to compensate municipalities for the extra cost of trash, police and maintenance, but Kennywood hasn't used borough services for years.

Kennywood is known for having either the first or one of the first kiddie land area in an amusement park, it is great for kids (i stayed riding in it until i was too tall for everything) haha.
My personal favorite rides in the kiddie land area were the miniture swings, they have a full size one in "Lost Kennywood" (an area of the park, used to be a parking lot, then they transformed it into an addition to the park in the mid 90's).
Yeah, but kennywood decided to be stupid and take that out like 2 years ago and put a lame 3-D garfeild ride in its place (kids will like, I'm just venting my anger ;)We also have other really old rides, but dont get me wrong we have new ones too.

We know that the proximity of Liz’s family to a great amusement park is one of the perks you got when they finally themselves to their lovely gal marrying a Jotz from Rahway.
Kennywood is one of my favorite amusement parks because it is so filled with history, and it’s a much more walkable park than sprawling megaparks like Great Adventure.
There are historical markers all over Kennywood, and It’s great to enjoy one of the last remaining “trolley parks” (although the trolley is long gone).

I headed next door to Racer and got on after a wait that seemed about as long, and although only one train per side was operating, that's still up to 48 passengers per cycle.
Kennywood is without a doubt the best-staffed park I've ever seen - there were plenty of staffers everywhere, up to five or six ride ops per coaster, and also I noticed maintenance milling around underneath the rides as they ran, inspecting the structure and underside of trains.
Kennywood completely met my expectations, and I'm definitely going to try to be back as soon as I can.

Like I said earlier Kennywood is a great place to walk around, who wouldn't want to spend a day walking around with views (and rides) like these
One thing you must do is try to hand slap the other train as you pass by.
A neat feature that was designed into this that I wish had been put into other racing coasters is that you start out on one side of the station and end up at the other side so they have to race the coasters at all times.

Trivia bit: The Kennywood Racer happens to be the coaster depicted in blueprint form on the opening screens of Disney's Coaster.
Kennywood has done something smart: There is a full set of spare drive belts ty-wrapped to each of the motor sweeps.

In accordance with the Kennywood Law #1, I proceeded from the Jack Rabbit to the Racer.
Anyway, as I boarded Racer, Gary handed me a ticket, which is unusual as the person standing in that location is normally supposed to collect tickets from the riders.
Racer gave its usual competent ride, and as usual when I stuck my arm out to 'high-five' the riders in the other train, all of them looked at me like I was from...well, not from Mars, as that's right up the road...but you get the idea.
