Four Fat Chicks -- History in the Making -- An Elder Scrolls Retrospective
Despite the story above, the truth is that Arena is called "Arena" because the game was not conceived as an RPG but as a first-person gladiatorial fighting game featuring a wide selection of fantasy races and classes coming together to do battle in a huge (you guessed it) arena.
According to the documentation, The Elder Scrolls: Arena got the subtitle it did because the vast, sprawling empire of Tamriel in which the game takes place is, by all accounts, a pretty rotten place to live.
Unlike Arena, which took place in the entire vastness of Tamriel, Daggerfall (and indeed all future Elder Scrolls games) focused on what was in fact a very small area of the huge empire.

The voice acting is absolutely outstanding, with nuances and inflections that ad spice and interest to the world of Vvardenfell and its various races.
The Dunmer, or Dark Elves, had been the ancestral inhabitants of Vvardenfell but have recently been displaced to an extent by new arrivals, the Imperials.
Or, you can become involved in the politics of Vvardenfell by joining guilds or one of the three Imperial Houses.

Dark elf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In The Elder Scrolls series of computer role-playing games, Dark Elves (often referred to as Dunmer) lived generally peacefully with other races.
In addition, thanks to the Armistice allowing Morrowind to maintain many of its own laws, it is the only province which practices slavery of "lesser" races, which the Dunmer consider to be most other races and even some of their own people.
Dunmer are said to have been punished with their red eyes and dark-bluish skin colour by Azura, one of the most prominent Daedra, either for disobeying her in one of the most crucial moments of their history or for turning to worship the Tribunal, along with the Tribunal killing Nerevar, the savior of the Dunmer.

GiveUpAlready.com - Games Review :: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Outlanders of lots of different races have settled themselves in Vvardenfell, like the cat-like Khajjit, the reptilian Argonians, and human races like the dark Redguard, the Bretons, the barbaric Nords from Skyrim and of course the Cyrodiil, or Imperials.
You are a person whose parents are unknown, and you are sent as a prisoner to the town of Seyda Neen in the Vvardenfell region of Morrowind, a province of the Empire of Tamriel, the civilisation from Cyrodiil that brought peace and prosperity, but also corruption and poverty to the provinces they conquered.
They are clearly inspired by the ancient Roman Empire, which becomes clear by their Legions and the names of Imperials.

However, the High Elf's smug self-assurance of his superiority can be hard to bear for those of other races.
Deft, intelligent, and strong-willed, High Elves are often gifted in the arcane arts, and High Elves boast that their sublime physical natures make them far more resistant to disease than the "lesser races."

Four Fat Chicks -- History in the Making -- An Elder Scrolls Retrospective
Each of the provinces is home to a race of your usual fantasy peoples—Dark, High, and Tree Elves inhabit the provinces of Morrowind, Sumerset Isle, and Valenwood respectively; exotic races, such as the tigerlike Khajiit and lizard-man Argonian tribes, live in more distant Elsweyr and Black Marsh.
Stuff is expensive, monsters prowl the landscape, the provinces constantly wage war against one another, and aside from a few relatively civilized areas, the entire nation bitterly resents occupation by the Imperial Province of Cyrodiil, a land of humans who decided, several hundred years before, that they should just take everything for themselves.
Those directly related to human beings are relegated to the northern provinces of Skyrim, High Rock, Hammerfell, and of course Cyrodiil itself.

It does it all - from building landscapes, towns, and dungeons to writing dialogue, creating characters, weapons, races, creatures, magic, etc. You'll be able to create your own adventures and other players will be able download them directly into their existing game.

CanadianGamer.ca - The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Review
Dealing with political intrigue in the troubled land of Tamriel, Arena was an RPG unlike any that had come before, exhibiting unprecedented scope through over 400 locations, eight races and 18 classes to choose from, and tons of useable items littered about.
Despite being known for their bugginess almost as much as for their expansiveness, both of these titles created a stir in the gaming industry and acquired a large fan base.
The scope of the gameplay has been pared down from the previous TES games, narrowing the focus from the entire world of Tamriel to the small island of Vvardenfell.

A Breton is definitely the "fight fire with fire" sort.
The real advantages here are the Argonian's immunity to poison (which gives you, essentially, free kills against some enemies) and resistance to common diseases (which deteriorate various attributes until you go out of your way to cure them).
The nice bonus to Athletics means that an Argonian will be faster in both water and on land than other races.

The confusion is that the Dwemer were enemies of the Dunmer, and yet "House Dwemer" was considered a dunmer great house.
i beleive mods have been done that added dwemer races and in that they were short, fatish, with green hair(women dont have beards), and yellow high elfish skin.
Since House Dwemer is referred to as a "dunmer" great house, it becomes clear that what we NOW call "Chimer" and what we now call "Dwemer" were in fact the same race.

I also guess correcting the usage of Dunmer was also pretty unnecessary considering the name of this thread is "Chi"-mer anyway.
