  Guide to Radar Profiles
The recorded data represents the total travel time for a GPR signal to pass from the antenna, through the subsurface to a reflector, and return to the antenna.
As mentioned earlier, the vertical scale of the radar profile is a time scale which shows the time it takes for the signal to travel through the subsurface and return to the antenna.

Radar antennas on aircraft are usually mounted on the underside of the platform so as to direct their beam to the side of the airplane in a direction normal to the flight path**.
As coherent pulses transmitted from the radar source reflect from the ground to the advancing platform (aircraft or spacecraft), the target acts as if it were in apparent (relative) motion.
At the radar antenna, the angle between a horizontal plane (essentially, parallel to a level surface) and a given slant range direction is called the depression angle β (beta) for any point along that directional line (a mnemonic for that is "lowering your head down from staring forward when depressed").

Physical Evidence Related to UFO Reports (Sturrock Panel): Radar Evidence - UFO Evidence
The altitude of the object was not recorded by radar.
A further limitation, relevant to the study in hand, is that conditions for a good radar record and conditions for a good visual sighting are quite different.
The panel concludes from these presentations that the analysis of radar records is a very specialized activity that requires the services of radar experts.

A custodian of records may not institute a policy or procedure concerning public records that is adverse to the provisions of the Public Records Law and its Regulations.
The term "public records" is broadly defined to include all documentary materials or data, regardless of physical form or characteristics, made or received by any officer or employee of any municipality or agency of the Commonwealth, unless falling within a statutory exemption.
Since those records are not yet in existence at the time of the request, they are also outside the purview of the Regulations and the custodian may set the fe for such access.

A radar system transmits pulses in the direction of interest and records the strength and origin of "echos" or reflection received from objects within the system's field of view.
Synthetic aperture radar records the frequency differences of backscattering signal at different aircraft position during the time period when the target is illuminated by the transmitted energy.
SAR records both amplitude and frequency of backscattering signals of objects throughout the time period in which they are within the beam of moving antenna.

The composite radar graphic (pdf) (gif) shows that five key radar targets were identified within a 3 nautical mile radius of Flight 800 when its transponder failed after 20:31:12.
The primary radar records any reflected signal but does not have an altitude component, therefore, we have the ability to determine distance and azimuth from the radar but not the altitude of any object.
We used the NTSB radar data to simulate the expected trajectory (pdf) for Flight 800 as it fell in a ballistic arc from the initial explosion point to the spot where it landed in the debris field.

 ( ( ( DJ RADAR.COM ) ) ) BIOGRAPHY
A pioneer in the world of hip-hop music and one-half of the world-renowned dj crew the Bombshelter DJs, which also includes fellow Phoenix native Emile, DJ Radar refuses to adhere to artificial musical boundaries, and is constantly searching for fresh and innovative ways to blur the lines between genres.
Radar's main motivation for writing the "Concerto for Turntable," he says, is to "demonstrate the difference between a DJ and turntablist." The first movement of the piece premiered in a performance at Grady Gammage Auditorium with the Arizona State University Symphony Orchestra on March 7, 2001, before a crowd of 3,500 people.
Radar strives to avoid stereotypes in his music and upholds a common Bombshelter philosophy by saying, "I don't set any boundaries with my music.

Occupational Exposure of Police Officers to Microwave Radiation From Traffic Radar Devices   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Radar was first used by police for traffic speed-measuring purposes in the 1950's, although their use was relatively infrequent until the early 1970's.
Stationary mode radars had to be used by an officer in a fixed position, but moving mode radars could correctly adjust for the motion of the patrol vehicle while determining the speed of the target vehicles coming toward the patrol.
In that report, the authors found some supporting evidence for the plausibility of an association between radar use and cancer, specifically, the cancers were medically verified to be testicular in origin and the temporal characteristics of the cases were appropriate, i.e., radar use occurred years before the diagnosis of cancer.

Musically, Radar is a record of power and dynamics.
Released on Hideaway Records, Radar is a collection of songs that perfectly captures the joy of being in a band with guys who understand the meaning of rock and roll as savior.
Radar is reminiscent of Drivin' N Cryin' in that it combines hints of the Southland into a rock bouillabaisse, with a twinge of Smithereens poppiness.

Lights that were recorded to be below the contours of the mountains must have originated in the Hessdalen region, but lights that were recorded to be above the crest line may have originated at a great distance.
During a period of four days, unknown lights were seen on 10 occasions, and the flux-gate magnetometer registered 21 pulsations, of which 4 appear to correspond with the observations of lights, suggesting an association between some of the unknown lights and magnetic disturbances.
It is recommended that, as a first step, a set of two separate video recorders be equipped with identical wide-angle objectives and installed on two distant fixed tripods to help eliminate the possibility that some of the apparent motions detected by video recorders are due to the operators' hand movements or ground vibrations.

Tucson Weekly: Wave Theory (October 17 - October 23, 2002)
Like all great bands, the Radar Brothers don't overcomplicate their songs: Steve Goodfriend's drums are laid way back, Putnam's guitar chords are crisp and simple, and Senon Williams's bass lines add just enough low end to hold the sustaining guitar chords in place.
Every Radar Brothers release has some sort of panoramic photo image on it of a purely Western scene; on the first full-length it's palm trees against a strangely deep blue-green sky; the inside cover is the sky just after the sun has set.
This is important because it's this kind of scenery that saturates every Radar Brothers soundscape; their music is described on the Merge Records website as "sun soaked." It's desert-like, purely Western Sunday afternoon Interstate driving music, the perfect calm to remedy Tucson's mid-October schizophrenic weather shifts.

CNN - Radar records flight of the honeybee - February 4, 2000
Visual observations indicate a honeybee takes several test flights before it becomes a true forager, like a commercial airline pilot before he is charged with a plane full of passengers.
A recently developed harmonic radar system, which uses a lightweight transponder to shift a fundamental radio wave through a "harmonic" and re-emit the signal without the aid of a power supply such as a heavy battery, allowed the researchers to track the bees on their orientation flights.
This interpretation of the data means that bees "learn small features of the landscape close to the ground when they are near the hive and larger features when they are farther away," Collett concludes.

Waggle dance controversy resolved by radar records of bee flight paths - 11 May
Using harmonic radar, scientists, funded in part by the UK’s Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have now tracked the flight of bees that had attended a “waggle dance” and found that they flew straight to the vicinity of the feeding site, as predicted by von Frisch.
The controversy has persisted because prior to the advent of harmonic radar, no one could show exactly where the recruits flew when they left their hives.
They captured these recruits as they left the hive, attached a radar transponder to them and then tracked their flight paths using harmonic radar.

USGS OGW, BG: Mapping hydraulically permeable fractures using directional borehole radar and hole-to-hole tomography ...
Reflection-mode borehole radar and transmission-mode radar tomograms image heterogeneity in the electromagnetic properties of rock.
Correlation of features identified in borehole radar reflection records and tomograms with hydraulic flow paths is generally uncertain because the records show responses to heterogeneity of all- kinds, not just to hydraulically permeable fractures.
Comparisons of results from directional radar reflection surveys to well-to-well difference attenuation tomography in the same pairs of wells show generally good correspondence between the location of radar reflections and attenuation anomalies.
