Radauti, one of the oldest places of Moldavia, is situated at the foot of the Obcinele Bucovinea, at an altitude of 374 m from the sea level, and at a distance of 37 km from Suceava.
Radauti was documentary certified in 1392 under the name Radomir's village.
There are some opinions which suggest that Radauti derives from Radomir, others sustain that its origins must be sought in ancient times and that its name derives from the Latin word Rottacenum - "rotta" meaning wheel or round, and 'ciner" meaning ashes, therefore a round place for incineration.

We have also donated three and half tonnes of medical equipment to hospitals in Radauti and Suceava.

A circumcision was indeed a real event for this small community of aged people and a mitzvah that was not easy to fulfill given the fact that by then only a small number of people who could perform the rites were left in the country.

These two ladies, Chaia and Binzia Weber are originally from Radauti and were neighbours of my wife's family back home.
Among the gravestones I found some where names of loved ones who perished during the Holocaust were added after the war by their relatives in Radauti.
One was the name of Jusiu Reicher (see: Chapter III.A.) whom I found in the cellar of the Ukrainian police in Czortkow in July 1941 and who was later killed.

 Habitat for Humanity ROMANIA
This year is a first: the team of 19 Lafarge volunteers is made of managers, technicians and personnel from the corporate functional and administrative services and from Lafarge operational units from Romania.
The Lafarge volunteer team is working at the interior finishes of the houses using 1800 sqm of gypsum plasterboard and other construction materials necessary for the construction works.
The houses are not given out, but the homeowner families will pay the houses in monthly payments at no profit and no interest to the organization, so new Habitat houses continue to be built for other needy families.

Stephen Tosczak was born in 1847 in western Galicia where his father farmed in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains.
Stephen was a flsmith by trade and lived in the city of Radautz (present day Radauti, Romania) where he had moved as a young man. While in Radautz he met and married Emelia Czajkowska, the daughter of a joiner named Johan Czajkowski.
The Czajkowski family was of Polish ancestry and had settled in Radautz several generations earlier.
