Fountains Of Wayne (album) Music Guide - WikiMusicGuide, the Music Wiki
The first album of Fountains of Wayne showcases a kind of writing that is honest and unpretentious, straight to the point and conversational.
The single Radiation Vibe and Sink To The Bottom receieved a massive amount of airtime even if the album itself was not a sure-fire hit.
The cover of the album showing a little boy pretending to be a superhero with a cape tied behind him reflects the band's "child".

Tick.," which is actually rather indicative of Radiation 4's musical product; frenetic metal-rock, with a touch of death, a dose of tech, a dash of strange, and more than a few nods to Mike Patton.
Whatever your perspective, originality isn't likely to be focal point for detractors of Radiation 4, with the possible exception of the aforementioned Patton influence.
And although Radiation 4 are not without flaws, they are able to quickly stanch any problem areas, maintaining an admirable level of maturity and consistency seldom found in bands this young.

Radiation (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A self-produced effort, the band set out to make a quick album due to money and time limits and this somewhat shows on the album.
On Radiation, Marillion aimed for a more "poppy" approach to their writing and many fans regard this CD as weak.
As Marillion's tenth studio album, the number 10 can be seen in the "io" in both "Marillion" and "Radiation" on the cover.

Given this, the band decided in 2000 to adopt a completely new approach to the way their albums were funded and asked their fans to pay for an album over a year ahead of it's release.
The release of the band's debut album, 'Script For A Jester's Tear' in 1983, was a mission statement, with Fish's poetic and complex lyrics being melded to a mesmerising musical backdrop.
The warm and inventive Radiation followed in 1998 and highlighted the bands ability to produce intricate music that was even further away from their progressive rock roots and with the dub and country influences that became evident on 1999's 'marillion.com', the band had once again pushed at the boundaries to create another diverse album.

I tried to spin “Radiation” and failed to continue listening after half- way through the CD and I returned the CD back to my friend because I didn’t think that I can enjoy the music produced from the CD.
Time went by and there was time (I think sometime in 2004) I thought that I needed to collect all Marillion’s albums Hogarth era because I already got into deep in loving the band during their early years (Fish era).
And last year I got the “Radiation” CD with a bargain price (US$ 6) and did not spin it right away and let the CD being wrapped with its plastic.

With a mission statement that loosely implies that they are out to do something different with their music, Radiation 4 would seem to be a band intent on breaking boundaries.
From top to bottom this album treads vaguely familiar water as eclectic metalcore, operatic vocals, spastic screams, mathy metal concoctions and experiments with ambient noise all bubble to the surface at a fevered pitch.
Energetic and alarmingly claustrophobic, the band pack a wealth of ideas into each song, even going so far as to incorporate haunting textured ambiance and what sounds to be a an xylophone to bolster their unchained metallic demeanor.

"Radiation Suit" is about as classic as HRC can get, and "Consumed By Laziness" shows that the band can slow down the tempo without losing some of their nearly-patented punk-meets-emo-and-they-get-into-a-drunken-brawl sound.
The album falls into the category of glorified background music - sure, it's good, and when you pay attention to it, you enjoy it, but that's just the thing - when you *don't* pay attention to it, you tend to enjoy it even more.
this album is pretty good, but after a couple of listens, the only song i found to stick out was 'at natures mercy' nothing like irish car bomb or power of vitimins on this.

The collection begins with Sally Ellyson's a cappella rendering of "All the Pretty Little Horses," one of the songs that served as her introduction to the band.
The album follows with a lovely, laid-back take on "Rainy Night in Georgia," a cut custom made for the band's trademark, low-key, country-flavored arrangements.

The last band playing '70s-influenced art rock just keeps on ticking, and "Radiation" is yet another solid release from this British quintet.
Unlike some of Marillion's recent work, this is not a concept album where all the songs have a common link, but that only serves to make the album more accessible to potential new fans.
But overall, "Radiation" should not disappoint either long term Marillion fans or newcomers who are looking for some high quality thinking-person's rock.

We decided not to include the tracks on the "Radiation" album as we thought they both needed more work on the arrangements and then re-recording.
The process of arriving at an arrangement for a song is not one which comes naturally to us as we don't like to repeat ourselves and are always trying to avoid the obvious "verse/chorus/verse/chorus/middle-8/chorus/end" structures.

Last year Marillion traveled to Oswestry, Wales to do the final mixing of their latest album, "Radiation." While in town, the boys worked out a deal with a local restaurant owner.
Realizing that there were many reasons for this album to be left behind by the band, I was still enthusiastic at the resurrection of many of the cuts.
The only two cuts to make it from "Radiation" were "Now She'll Never Know" and "Answering Machine." The latter track featuring a significant stylistic departure from the form that ended up on the album (the album version is quite the opposite of acoustic!).

History has demonstrated that bands with a novelty song -- and nothing else -- on their hit list run the risk of becoming Nada Surf.
"Or worse," worries Chris Collingwood, lead singer of Fountains of Wayne, who scored a minor hit with 1997's carefree "Radiation Vibe." "There are some songs that are funny in a clever kind of way, and there are some things that, once you hear them once or twice, you never want to hear them again.
You realize that whatever songs you [include on the album] you're gonna wind up playing for at least a year, so you have to try to ignore the sense that it's more important than it is. We just wanted to do something that we liked."
