Radical feminism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Radical feminists in Western society believe that their society is an oppressive patriarchy that primarily oppresses women.
This feminism was truly radical in both a political sense, and in the sense of seeking the root cause of the oppression of women.
Other critics of radical feminism from the political left, including socialist feminists, strongly disagree with the radical feminist position that the oppression of women is fundamental to all other forms of oppression; these critics hold that issues of race and of class are as important or more important than issues about gender.

Second: the radical feminist program here outlined is not terribly different from that of the anarchists; while the anarchists opposed governmental discrimination against women, they certainly did not think that the obstacles facing women were limited to this.
That is not to deny that radical feminists often describe those problems in exaggerated and hysterical terms (e.g., the claim that all heterosexual intercourse is rape).
To attack radical feminist concerns merely because they are often advanced in an extremist fashion is to ignore (and incidentally alienate) all those radical feminists who advance the same concerns in a more reasonable fashion.

Some radical feminists, therefore, have proposed the need for women to form their own societies apart from men so that they would have complete control over their reproductive processes -- hence ridding society of patriarchy forever.
The socialist feminist framework, she concluded, is the most comprehensive theory among the three and the one that future researchers should concentrate on for further development.

In fact, such radical feminists have only shown disdain and contempt for women who speak out against abortion such as Pat Goltz and Cathy Callaghan, who formed Feminists for Life after Goltz was expelled from her local NOW chapter for daring to declare that abortion violated original feminist principles and trying to distribute pro-life literature.
Simply put, radical feminists pretend to be speaking for all women when they are only speaking for radical feminists, an extremist corruption of original feminism which bullies through its agenda through political, social and media flmail and deception as facilitated by its liberal media partners.

Radical feminists and lesbian feminists have always made people angry because, although we certainly don't all agree, we dare to have critical ideas about western society's great idols: sex and capitalist consumerism (not to mention the links between the two).
However, I can see how some women who have become feminists in the past decade and whose main introduction to radical feminist writing is the work of Catharine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin could get the impression that all radical feminists are anti-sex.
I am sure that many lesbians who are not radical are also not a bit mercenary, but I also suspect that one of the reasons the radicals are not so popular is that we openly scorn these criteria.

Prof. Nunziato - Gender Equality   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Radical feminists believe that their liberal counterparts' call for equal treatment of the sexes would be efficacious only in an ideal world, and that their own approach attempts to bring about justice for women given a less than ideal world by addressing the fact that women are in an inferior starting position to men.
[FN106]  Radical feminists, however, criticize this move and argue that the liberal antidiscrimination principle is least well‑suited to achieve equality for women in the area of pregnancy discrimination, and that special treatment of pregnancy is necessary.
Given the radical feminist critique, which identifies areas in our less than ideal world in which men tend to be psychologically, financially, sexually, and athletically dominant, the informed gender‑neutral approach calls for the crafting of gender‑neutral legislation and doctrines to remedy these types of subordination ‑‑ regardless of the gender of the subordinated party.

First, radical feminist analysis is not “based on biology.” On the contrary, a central theme of radical feminism has been precisely that gender differences are socially constructed, and that women are constituted as a politically relevant class by social institutions, practices, and imputed meanings, not by pre-social biological facts beyond anyone’s control.
Sciabarra’s radical libertarian critique of acontextual method and Archimedean utopian planning, in both statist and libertarian thought, might be profitably compared with (among others) Catharine MacKinnon’s radical feminist critique of the ideal of “objectivity” (i.e., unsituated knowledge without a point of view) and Archimedean legal proceduralism in patriarchal liberalism.
The name “Radical Menace” is made by analogy to the “Red Menace” strategy used to delegitimize organized opposition to the Cold War, and to the “Lavender Menace” controversy within the feminist movement in 1970—one of the original historical examples of the mechanisms of Radical Menace politics within the feminist movement.
