 NationMaster.com - Encyclopedia: Radio Birdman
Radio Birdman is possibly Australian rock's most legendary band, cutting a completely individual path through the music of the day, and exploding into fragments at the peak of the group's power, just like fireworks should.
In December 1974, within a month of forming, Radio Birdman was performing its first gigs, playing some originals, and extending their repertoire with cover versions of songs by the Dictators and Blue Oyster Cult, surf songs, Ventures, The Doors, Alice Cooper, John Lennon's 'Cold Turkey' and more.
As well as being loud, Radio Birdman added to their menacing image with paramilitary stage clothes, and the parading of the band's mystical-looking eagles wings-flying saucer symbol, the band and its followers a cult united against the world.

Longtime cult darlings well on their way to becoming one of Australian rock's most enduring legends, Sydney's Radio Birdman sprang from a primordial stew comprised of the Doors, Stooges, MC5 and Blue öyster Cult.
Birdman had broken up one tour after the LP's completion, scattering its members around Australia to go forth and multiply (band-wise), bolstering the country's already thriving underground with numerous new groups.
The Visitors, a short-lived project that also included Birdman drummer Ron Keeley, released an album in '82 (previewed on a four-song EP) of semi-memorable tracks (like "Euro Girls") that departs from the pair's past work to focus on an overtly '60s-style Lyres sound that relies heavily on Farfisa-style organ and B-movie kitsch.

 Jack Feeny reviews: Radio Birdman
Radio Birdman are not a recent band, though, but one that split up to the regret of no-one in particular over twenty years ago.
Given the contemporaneous nature of their development it is unlikely the Ramones had a strong influence on Radio Birdman but it is interesting to note that both revelled in a similarly naive and light-hearted approach to rock'n'roll, despite taking their cues from the political ferocity of the MC5 and the debauched diatribes of the Stooges.
Radio Birdman were obviously not the world's most adventurous band, but they were certainly one of the most energetic, and when one considers that they were one of the first names in the garage rock history books their approach deserves many more plaudits than it currently garners.

Radio Birdman: The Essential Radio Birdman Aversion.com Review
Radio Birdman, however, is the missing link between modern Australian punks and punk?s first wave, though it?s a bit of musical Darwinism that?s been lost to most American ears for years, as the Australian band?s catalog?s been out of print stateside for years.
Radio Birdman never spins off into the brink of raw punk nihilism or power, though it?s easy to see the connection between Birdman?s rock and punk: Both feature gnarly guitars and an aesthetic that puts powerful execution before virtuosity.
Radio Birdman?s style doesn?t capture the unhinged glory of early punk acts, but the affinity between the two should be enough to capture the imagination of many a punk fan.

This track exemplifies more than any other that Radio Birdman were not just a punk band, but another thing entirely, a dexterous unit whose regrettably short existence managed to produce some transcendent music.
