RadioShack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The company was started as Radio Shack in 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts, by two brothers, Theodore and Milton Deutschmann, who wanted to provide equipment for the cutting-edge field of amateur, or ham, radio.
Tandy also operated a chain similar to Radio Shack in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s, but under the Tandy name.
In the late 1980s, Radio Shack made the transition between its proprietary lines of 8-bit computers to its line of more-or-less IBM-compatible Tandy series of computers.

 A Radio Worth Buying
Unlike the AM and FM radios stations which we are used to, short-wave signals “bounce” all over the world, so it’s possible to receive stations from the other side of the globe, often as clearly as if the radio station were in the neighboring town.
Radio Shack - the 7-11 of things electronic, has introduced a new radio which fits the bill for daily as well as emergency usage.
The radio and all knobs are well rounded and should not get snagged on gear while being shoved into and pulled out of a ruck sack or cut the fabric on your pack and clothing.

The "supermarket of sound," as Radio Shack used to call itself, actually published two catalogs in 1981.
It cost $39.95, minus an AC adapter, and featured "on-screen scoring, sound effects and auto/manual serve." Radio Shack wasn't selling Mattel or Atari game systems; Nintendo was still a few years from its groundbreaking Entertainment System.
So my wish list by the time the 2011 Radio Shack catalog appears, if not well before, is that the consumer will be better served.
