Rafael Alers (October 16, 1903 – March 20, 1978) born in the town of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, was a musician, composer, bandleader and the first Puerto Rican to compose the music score for a Hollywood feature film.
Rafael took charge of the orchestra upon the death of Diaz Soler and in 1935, he felt the inspiration to compose a danza.
Rafael was named conductor of the ROTC band of the University of Puerto Rico which in 1946, included a young man by the name of Julito Rodriguez, who would some day in the future become a renowned musician himself.

Rafael Alers was born on 16 October, 1903.
By the time Alers was 30 years old, he played daily for a radio program with the orchestra of Carmelo Díaz Soler, which he took control of on the death of Díaz Soler.
In 1935, Alers was inspired to compose a danza which was played on the next day’s radio broadcast.

In 1867, he was a member of the Puerto Rican commission, which participated in the Overseas Information Committee in Madrid, Spain.
In 1907, he established the newspaper "El Tiempo." He was a member of the Executive Cabinet from 1900 to 1917 and held a seat in the Puerto Rican Senate from 1917 until his death on December, 1921 in San Juan.
One of Puerto Rico's leading 20th-century poets, influenced by Luis Llorens Torres, Clair Lair, Rafael Alberti and Pablo Neruda, she was a prominent member of the literary Vanguard movement in San Juan in the late 1930s.

My grandpa was Rafael Alers Gerena, born 1913, Aguadilla Puerto Rico.
Most of the Alers are from the northwest coast of Puerto Rico, so there should be a relation or common roots.
