Argentine foreign minister Rafael Bielsa this week addressed the UN C24 Decolonization Committee after raising the Falklands sovereignty question at the Organisation of American States summit in Ft. Lauderdale, Texas.
Argentina's appeal to the OAS and Bielsa's statement at the UN were the latest developments after a summary rejection of the country's proposals to negotiate the Falklands dispute at the UN decolonization seminar held in mid-May at St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Bielsa maintained this as a key point in his June 15 speech to the UN, while also stressing the illegitimacy of Britain's 1833 seizure of the Falklands.

Bielsa insisted that he was impartial and denied claims that he had called Correa, who is friendly with leftist Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, a "populist of the left." Meanwhile, Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) president Xavier Cazar dismissed charges that fraud might occur on election day.
