Rafael Márquez (born February 13, 1979 in Zamora, Michoacan, Mexico) is a Mexican football player, who currently plays for FC Barcelona of the Spanish La Liga.
Marquez rose to prominence while with Atlas, making 77 appearances for the team, and debuting for the Mexican national team, before moving on in 1999.
Marquez was an immediate success with Monaco, helping lead the team to the French title in his first season with the club.

Rafael Marquez made history on Saturday night in Las Vegas by stopping IBF bantamweight champion Tim Austin to become world champion within two weeks of his brother Juan Manuel Marquez becoming the featherweight champion for the same sanctioning body.
Marquez also became the first Mexican in 12 years to win the bantamweight title, considered in Mexico to be the most prestigious title because it is the belt that most Mexicans have won and a division they once dominated for years.
Marquez was finding a home for his right hand and with instructions from his trainer Nacho Beristain (who also trains Juan Manuel Marquez), he began finishing his combinations crisper.
