Architect Rafael Vinoly's design for an expanded David L. Lawrence Convention Center boasts a wide range of amenities meant to usher in the public and elevate the facility beyond being merely a space for conventions and trade shows.
Vinoly, who arrived in Pittsburgh from his Manhattan office, was selected Monday as the lead architect for the convention center expansion, estimated at $213 million.

TAMPA -- Internationally known architect Rafael Vinoly wears fl turtlenecks and has a peculiar habit of donning three pairs of eyeglasses at once: on the crown of his head, on the bridge of his nose, around his neck.
In the architectural world, Vinoly, 57, is seen as an "emerging great architect," said Stephen Schreiber, director of the school of architecture and community design at the University of South Florida.
Vinoly's most recent project was the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, which opened in December.

Following the selection of Rafael Viñoly Architects PC to lead the masterplanning of the Radcliffe Infirmary site, there will be an opportunity to view the practice’s winning competition submission and examples of their previous work at an exhibition this month.
Rafael Viñoly was selected last month to help the University achieve its vision for the 10.5-acre site, following a competition process which saw sixty architectural practices from across the UK, Europe, Australasia and North America submit Expressions of Interest.
An exhibition of Rafael Viñoly’s winning submission, together with examples of previous work the company has undertaken in the UK and abroad, will be held at the University Museum of Natural History on the ground floor from Tuesday 21 June to Thursday 23 June, 12 to 5pm, and is open to all.
