[EMVNet]: Response to Michaela Erkens and Barbara Curda (from Rahul Roy)
Posted by: Rahul Roy There are some gross generalisations and misrepresentations in both these postings on India 'reality'.
India is a highly heterogenous country and displays major shifts in attitudes, life styles, gender relationships, etc according to cultures, class, caste, region, etc. We have not yet been homogenised by capitalist enterprise into a society which can be commented upon by 'national' surveys which are claiming to present the 'real' 'Indian' picture.
I am sure both these postings are by people who are well meaning but they do need to do some serious homework on history, colonial representation and imperialist ideologies before they take on the battle for gender equity on behalf of women in India.

The documentary also emphasises one significant aspect of the careers of actors like Rahul Roy and Bhagyashree – stardom may have turned its back on them but they still nurture hopes of a glorious comeback in the face of much scepticism from the rest of the industry.
