Gold Coast Railroad Museum - Freight Cars - Helium Tank Car MHAX #1202
This car was "purpose built" to transport helium from gas producing wells, mostly located in Amarillo, Texas, to various different consumers throughout the United States.
Although this car was built in 1962, it is identical to those which brought helium to the Naval Air Station, Richmond, located on this site, for use in the 25, non-rigid airships based here.
Most recently, this car was used at the Kennedy Space Center, at Cape Canaveral, Florida, for the transportation and storage of helium used in a wide variety of processes in space flight.

A railroad car, (or, more briefly, car), also known as a item of rolling stock in British parlance, is a vehicle on a railroad or railway that is not a locomotive - one that provides another purpose than purely haulage, although some types of car are powered.
Passenger cars, or coaches, vary in their internal fittings but the vast majority of modern examples consist of a long interior with seats and a central aisle for access.
Freight cars or wagons exist in a bewilderingly wide variety of types, adapted to the ideal carriage of a whole host of different things.

Richard Hendrickson said these cars in the 3101-3200 series were built to the same design as a large number of early 1920's Canadian National box cars, and both the AC and the CN kept them in revenue service longer than they would have lasted on most U.S. roads.
Soph said this car was found in the CNW yards, in Marshalltown, IA in July 1971.

Railway Age: The high-tech car takes shape - railroad freight cars - includes information on recycling of steel ...

At the third annual Railway Age Intermodal Roundtable, held Aug. 15 in Chicago, the top people from the four U.S. manufacturers of a broad range of freight equipment were somewhat less optimistic, but nobody was predicting a drop in demand like the one that occurred in the 1980s, or anything close to that.
Another, which may affect the ability of component suppliers to predict orders/deliveries by car types, is simply that a manufacturer of wheels or axles or bearings may have a good fix on total demand, but perhaps not on the types of cars on which the product will be installed.
