Rainbow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a nearly continuous spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the Sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere.
The rainbow's appearance is caused by dispersion of sunlight as it is refracted by (approximately spherical) raindrops.
Rainbow flags have also been used as a symbol of the Cooperative movement; as a symbol of peace, especially in Italy; to represent the Tawantin Suyu, or Inca territory, in Peru and Equador; by some Druze communities in the Middle east; and by the Jewish Autonomous Oblast.

Aristotle thought that the rainbow was caused by reflection of the sun's rays by the rain.
The difference in the rainbow depends considerably upon the size of the drops, and the width of the colored band increases as the size of the drops increases.

The rainbow we normally see is called the primary rainbow and is produced by one internal reflection; the secondary rainbow arises from two internal reflections and the rays exit the drop at an angle of 50 degrees° rather than the 42°degrees for the red primary bow.
Spherical drops produce symmetrical rainbows, but rainbows seen when the sun is near the horizon are often observed to be brighter at their sides, the vertical part, than at their top.
The reflected rainbow may be considered as a combination of two rainbows produced by sunlight coming from two different directions - one directly from the sun, the other from the reflected image of the sun.

 Rainbow Album Reviews
By comparison, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow seems a tad tentative, perhaps in part because the overall talent level in the band wasn't nearly as high, but also because it took an album for Blackmore and Dio to figure out exactly what they wanted their band to be.
Indeed, each individual band member was now something of a minor star in their own right, and while listening to this album is dawned on me that for a short while there Rainbow was a truly great band.
Whereas the band with Bonnet at times approximated Kiss, on "I Surrender" (a minor hit) the Foreigner comparisons are inevitable, and though it's a decent enough pop rock song, it's plenty disappointing when one considers the heights Blackmore's previous Rainbow band had scaled but a few years before.

 Did You Know? The Rainbow
A rainbow can be defined as a band of colors (from red on the inside to violet on the outside) assembled as an arc that is formed by reflection and refraction (or bending) of the sun's rays inside raindrops.
The sun is always behind you and the rain in front of you when a rainbow appears, so the center of the rainbow's arc is directly opposite the sun.
As you move, the rainbow that your eyes see moves as well, because the raindrops are at different spots in the atmosphere.

At first, some of the accompanying strings "sustain little notes for half a beat or a beat longer than the actual melody itself." This causes the melody to "thicken out" and resound as if the damper pedal were being pressed on a piano.
