Topic: Rainbow 6 video game

Video Game History - The Complete History of Video Games   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
The term "video game" is often not considered to include computer games and coin-operated arcade games, both because historically the games in these three categories were very different, and also because the activity of playing these three types of games is different.
Video games are made by developers, sometimes individuals, but almost always a team consisting of designers, graphic designers and other artists, programmers, sound designers, musicians, and other technicians.
Video games are very popular and the market has grown continuously since the end of the video game crash of 1983.

Rainbow is the name of a British pre-school children's television series made by Thames Television in the 1970s and 1980s.
A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that causes a (nearly) continuous spectrum of light to be visable in the sky when the sun shines onto falling rain.
The rainbow's appearance is caused by dispersion of sunlight as it is refracted by (approximately spherical) raindrops.

The Video Game Critic's Atari 2600 Reviews A-A
This game could be the poster child for the 1983 video game crash - it resembles an unfinished 1979 high school programming assignment.
Game variation one is far too easy because you can rely almost solely on the middle cannon, which shoots straight up (unlike the side cannons that shoot diagonally).
Additionally, it was the first 2600 video game to produce a "sequel": Imagic's Cosmic Ark. Atlantis is an interesting game to look back on, but its shallow gameplay is hard to overlook.

This game is simply sub-par to it's Xbox counterpart, and for that matter the PS2 version as well, and I would really like to hear from anyone who plays both and disagrees with me. And that's a tough thing for me to say because I love this game, but on another system.

Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield is both a hoot and a holler to play, and I highly recommend it to anymore, but especially for anyone who favors realism in games and is tired of fast-paced but mind-numbing first person shooters.
So for a change of pace, this game is much better than counterstrike for online, has great environments, a planning system that lets a player describe the entire AI path(there are also pre-rendered ones for the campaign), and finally a game that has tons of weapons, so you won't ever get bored.
Rainbow Six was the first game where you could actually plan out youre mission and execute it just like a top secret military team would in real life.

This is what really separates it out as a "tactical shooter" and is, arguably, the most realistic a video game has ever been.
These lead into a myriad of smaller game problems, such as the lack of modern weapon options (for an uber-elite special forces team, Rainbow has dick for flashy gadgets) and the fairly repetitive mission options.

Rainbow Six is such a game, taking the engrossing realism of a first-person action game, such as GoldenEye 007, and adding a strategy element that brings enormous depth to the gameplay.
What's unique about this game is that you can plan the mission in advance - a detailed map of the entire level is available, and you can set waypoints, where you can move your operatives to and have them perform various actions.
While you don't have to read this information (and, in fact, the game has a quick-start option that lets you skip the planning mode entirely and jump into the skin of a Rainbow Sixer), details like this are what set this game apart from the pack.
