According to the sources, Rajkot Sales Tax Department registered total income of Rs 501.15 crore during the year 2005 as compared to that its’ income surged to Rs 622.75 crore.
Citing reason for increased income of Rajkot Sales Tax Department, sources in the department said that the increased sale of coal has led to a rise in the income of the Rajkot circle.
Giving district wise details of Rajkot circle, sources said that the total income of Rajkot city and district has remained at Rs 162.93 crore during the calendar year 2006 while in case of Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Kutch stood at Rs 176.38 crore, Rs 149.27 crore and Rs 133.17 crore respectively.

Around 50 dams in the region are almost dry and the situation is worst in Rajkot, Jamnagar and Surendranagar districts.

Reconstruction of homes and public buildings and the reinstatement of public utilities and facilities are under way in the other affected districts of Rajkot, Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Patan and in the city of Ahmedabad.
According to the government's progress report (for the period until the first week of December 2001), of a total number of 45,000 houses that needed to be rebuilt in Rajkot district, about 24,000 are at various stages of completion.

Saurashtra, Amreli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar will face a long dry summer in spite of the Mahi-Pariaj water pipeline fetching water pumped from the Narmada, which is strongly being projected as the saviour from the drought this year.
The district officials claim to have provided about 40 mld of water, while the rest is being supplied using tankers.

 Rediff On The NeT: NHRC demands inquiry into Rajkot blindings
Taking cognisance of press reports that seven people accused of minor offences lost their eyesight after the police allegedly applied Tiger Balm on their eyes in order to extract a confession, the Commission asked the state government to submit the report within a fortnight.
The accused were reportedly rounded up by the police on February 10 from the Bhagwatipara area in the district on charges of gambling.
Rajkot Police Commissioner P L Jani has ordered a departmental probe into the incident.
