As marital status at Rajneeshpuram was confounded by the arranged marriages of foreign disciples to United States citizens to circumvent visa restrictions, any comparison of marital status between the Rajneeshpuram and follow=up surveys would be misleading.
It is likely that former Rajneeshpuram residents' opinions of the movement were more positive than if they had become cut off from other Rajneeshees and were surrounded by individuals who lack understanding of their experiences.

It has good schools with a ten-grade course in the town, and six district schools in the surrounding territory, the rapid growth of school population already demanding expansion of present facilities, and plans for same are now under consideration.

In July the Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission made a set of temporary rules, to be effective retroactively to August of 1981 (Rajneeshpuram was incorporated by the Wasco County legislature in November 1981), that stated that a county had to come to the Commission before incorporating a city.
After the former mayor of Rajneeshpuram, Krishna Deva, aka David Berry Knapp, plead guilty to racketeering and conspiracy to commit immigration fraud, the Rajneeshees gave up the commune, and efforts were quickly made to sell off all the property and evacuate most of the residents as soon as possible (Oregonian 2M).
According to the booklet published by the commune at Rajneeshpuram, Rajneeshee worship is "meditation and the meditative attitude in work and play; the message of Rajneeshism was contained in the lectures of the guru; and Rajneeshee education was a lifelong process of learning self-awareness" (Fitzgerald, 1986a: 91).

This self-proclaimed prophet came to the U.S. from India and formed a colony he called Rajneeshpuram in the central Oregon desert near the town of Antelope.

When Wasco County was created from portions of Clackamas, Marion, Linn, and Lane Counties on January 11, 1854, it consisted of all of Oregon Territory between the Cascade Range and the Rocky Mountains and from latitude 42deg.

As to Rajneeshpuram - well, my very earliest counter-culture friend has been vith Rajneesh for many years, and I've had a sufficient exposure to her changes, and to his discourses, and to the group's doings up there in Oregon, so that my perceptions go a lot farther than what media makes of the trip.
It was also a rarely educative gift for me to be at Rajneeshpuram during the time of their highly publicized experiment with social cast-offs, and the media-adventures of their spokeswoman, Ma Anand Sheela who enraged everyone from Phil Donahue to Ted Koppel (and me, too) with her feisty style of public relations.
Rajneeshpuram is a place of spiritual seeking and social experiment.
