 Farmers, residents fight over water from Rajsamand lake
Farmers demanding irrigation water from the Rajsamand lake in the district are engaged in a tug-of war with the residents of the area, who say the water is for only drinking purposes.
At least 8,000 farmers from surrounding villages around the Rajsamand lake are forced to open the canal gates today despite the status quo orders by the Rajasthan High Court for the past five years.
According to sources, the farmers are demanding that water from the Rajsamand lake be given to them for irrigation as its water level has become 19 feet after about five years, owing to good monsoon in the area this season.

Indefinite curfew was clamped in Rajsamand town in South Rajasthan today following communal violence sparked off by the alleged attack on a group of `Kavadia yatris'.
Police used ``mild force'' to disperse the mob on the rampage and imposed indefinite curfew in the entire town in the afternoon to bring the situation under control.
Police sources asserted that curfew had been clamped as a precautionary measure to prevent worsening of the law and order situation.A crowd of agitated people, which blocked the National Highway No. 8 on the outskirts of Rajsamand for an hour, was also dispersed by police in a prompt action.

About my hometown Rajsamand, it is a small district with some great religious and historical places.
The main town is at a distance of 60km from Udaipur and can be reached by road routes only.
