  Rakahanga Island
Rakahanga atoll lies about 19 nautical miles from Manihiki, 4 miles west of north.
The small islet of Te Kainga was the site of the original village on Rakahanga, the other islets being used to grow a food supply.
When this islet was outgrown, the village was moved to the larger adjoining islet to the south.

Glassie says the Rakahanga Island Council asked for the slipway to be shifted — not the prime minister.
Glassie was a member of an official party that accompanied the prime minister on an inspection tour of the northern islands last month and says members of the delegation experienced the flooding problem for themselves when they arrived on Rakahanga.
