 Ukraine's Hutsul Region: Accommodations and Attractions
The largest towns (villages) in the region are Dilyatyn, Kosiv, Kuty, Vyzhnytsia, Vorokhta, Yabluniv, Rakhiv, and Yaremcha.
Rakhiv can be reached by bus or train from Uzhhorod or Mukacheve in far western Ukraine.
The most important transportation artery in the region is the road between Ivano-Frankivsk and Rakhiv that passes through the highest parts of the Ukrainian Carpathians over a 830 m.

A music festival recently held in the town of Rakhiv in Ukraine showed that Ukrainian musicians follow the world music trends but at the same time retain differences that make them original.
Rakhiv is situated in Western Ukraine in scenic natural settings, not far from the place which is considered to be the geographical centre of Europe.

In Rakhiv, I was met at the small train station by Yuri Moskalenko, who surprised me as I had expected to catch a bus or train to Ivano-Frankivsk.
The town of Rakhiv has little industry left after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but has great potential as a tourist destination, due to its close proximity to the Carpathian mountains.
In fact, before we left Rakhiv, our entourage made a stop at "The Geographic Center of Europe," a location nearby that was proclaimed in 1927 by a noted group of geographers to be the exact middle-point of Europe.

Since we are the local community center for the Velykobereznyansky district, local organizations have been going door to door to collect clothes and other forms of aid for people in our district and in the Rakhiv district (which has been hit the hardest).
Rakhiv sounds more like a war zone these days with all the helicopters and heavy equipment working non-stop to repair damage done by flooding of the Tysa River last week.
The local Red Cross estimates that in the Rakhiv District alone, 250 houses have been severely damaged, seven of which were actually swept away in the river.
