2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback & Lancer Ralliart   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
We tested the Ralliart sedan with a five-speed manual transmission, which has a base price of $21,988, but can be loaded up with options to reach $25,348.
Both Ralliart models share the 2.4-litre 162-hp engine (a boosted version of that in the Sportback LS) and a factory-tuned suspension that inspired the Ralliart street-tuner name.
Ralliart models get a sport suspension, including unique spring rates, specific damper tuning, tighter bushings, a stiffer steering rack and a particularly stiff three-point front strut tower brace.

2004-2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart / Sportback Review - Modern Racer - Auto Archive
Ralliart is the name of Mitsubishi's performance arm, similar to Toyota's TRD and Ford's SVT.
Not to be confused with the Evo, the front-wheel-drive Ralliart-edition Lancer is a compromise between the hardcore Evo and the pathetic OZ Rally Edition.
Inside the Lancer Ralliart are fl cloth sport seats lifted from the Japanese-market Lancer Evolution GT-A. Red accents are woven in, and see-through headrests are a prominent interior characteristic.

The Ralliart, the third (and most expensive) in the Lancer series gets solid gas mileage at nearly 30 per gallon on the highway and as much as 25 in city driving.
The Ralliart’s overall handling, whether it be a quick lane change or a gradual with a change of elevation, is good, though not spectacular.
Overall, the Ralliart is not bad for the buck, considering its appearance, interior equipment and reliability.

CanadianDriver: Test Drive - 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
There are two ways to view the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart: as the ultimate and most painful tease for the Lancer Evolution, a car we can't get in Canada, or as just a really nice little car with a dose of extra attitude.
Though the Ralliart's engine is similar to the one used in other Mitsubishis like the Lancer Sportback and the base Galant, it has been mated to a throaty exhaust that gives it some extra edge.
The Ralliart's biggest threat is the Mazda3 Sport Hatchback, which is priced for just a little more money, but offers similar equipment and a more rounded driving experience with a smoother ride and even more impressive cornering ability.

Sportback Ralliart: Wagon functionality with rally spirit
The Ralliart's engine is tweaked with a different cam profile, which allows intake valves to stay open further and longer to take in more power-boosting airflow.
Ralliart models are distinguished by sportier fl vs. the LS model's chrome-colored grille inserts.
Mitsubishi's Sportback Ralliart fills a niche for consumers who Mitsubishi says have "high rpm hearts and logical minds," combining high cargo-toting functionality with elements borrowed from the rally-proven Lancer Evolution sport sedan.

Ralliart is Mitsubishi's motorsports skunkworks and has been the wellspring of the company's highly successful efforts in the World Rally Championship.
Do not confuse the Lancer Ralliart with the O-Z Rally, which is exactly as racy as a pound and a half of Velveeta.
The Ralliart's power peak comes on at a fairly relaxed level (5750 rpm), and allied with a five-speed manual gearbox (augmented by a slick short-throw shifter from the Evo parts bin), it's enough to haul this Lancer to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 90 mph.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer at Epinions.com
The Ralliart's transmission was another best-in-class, with a beautifully simple explanation: this unit is lifted directly from the legendary Lancer Evolution.
The Ralliart's handling is also among the best you can get for under $20,000, which came as a bit of a surprise to me--I drove a base Lancer ES not too long ago, and its back-road behavior was a little clumsy.
Overall though, the Ralliart's handling is superb--how easily you can use all the available grip is more important than the amount of grip itself--and a more aggressive set of tires would likley improve the Ralliart's skidpad performance greatly.

2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart - The Car Connection
The 2004 Lancer Ralliart is the car Mitsubishi hopes that buyers - young buyers - attracted to the EVO's accumulating legend will want after realistically confronting their own financial limitations and insurance premiums.
The Ralliart, on the other hand, is the mechanical equivalent of a Honda Civic Si or Nissan Sentra SE-R, and that's not bad company.
The Ralliart is probably just about as quick as Civic Si and maybe just a touch behind the Sentra SE-R. Put that down as a wild-eyed guess of an 8.0-second 0-to-60 time and a 16-flat quarter mile.

Review: 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart Darwinism
Ralliart is to Mitsubishi what NISMO and Prodrive are to Nissan and Subaru.
The Lancer Ralliart which I drove showed no propensity to make lurid four — wheel slides around the Malibu Canyons or get airborne over the crests of small humps — but it was nevertheless very enjoyable and reassuring to drive.
The Ralliart has discs all rounds instead of drums at the rear and they are aided by ABS and electronic brake force distribution.

At the test track, the Lancer Ralliart kept up with all but the best of them, running to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.7.
The Ralliart version will be distinguishable by a new rear spoiler, front and side air dams and unique foglights.

The O-Z Rally is still on board, and shares with Ralliart its white-faced gauges, carbon fibre look-alike dash panel (which is actually quite attractive), ground effects and rear spoiler.
To that, Ralliart adds comfortable and supportive Sport front bucket seats, sport-tuned suspension, 16-inch alloy wheels, 4-wheel discs with ABS and electronic brake force distribution, and a free-flow sport-tuned exhaust.
The kicker is Ralliart's exclusive 2.4 litre SOHC 4-cylinder MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control - hey, I just report 'em, I don't name 'em) engine, which hits 162 twice - its horsepower at 5,750 rpm, and its lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The Lancer Ralliart is really what the 120-hp Lancer O-Z Racing Rally Edition should have been in the first place—a legitimate sport compact that is quick, nimble, and capable of taking on the likes of the Ford SVT Focus and Mazdaspeed Protegé.

And so when we discovered that the Ralliart was going to be sold with no less than 180kW from its (still only mildy tweaked!) 3.5 litre V6, and that bigger brakes and a sophisticated torque-sensing LSD were also going to find their way into the package, well, we were pretty excited.
We had a 3-litre Magna Sport driver pedal the Ralliart and since he was used to carefully unwinding the steering wheel as he exited corners under power, and holding the wheel firmly during acceleration, he didn't have any problems.
The test Ralliart was fitted with the $1850 optional sunroof - which had the effect of very pleasantly opening up the cabin of what is a car with quite a high waistline - while included as standard there's an easy to use digital climate control, effective trip computer, twin airbags and electric mirrors and windows.

The camshafts offer 10 percent more lift (and their associated valve springs are upgraded), there're improved cylinder heads, a high-flow exhaust with new stainless headers, revised ECU mapping and the compression ratio has been upped to 9.4:1 - a modest amount that still allows the use of normal unleaded fuel, rather than expensive high-octane premium.
