Ralph Rexford Bellamy (June 17, 1904 - November 29, 1991) was an American actor.
He died as a result of a lung ailment in Santa Monica, California at the age of 87, and was buried in Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles.
Bellamy has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6542 Hollywood Boulevard.

Ralph Rexford Bellamy was born in Chicago in mid-1904 to Charles Rexford Bellamy and Lilla Louise Smith.
Bellamy was nominated for an Oscar in 1937 for his role in "The Awful Truth." Though he did not win the Oscar that year, he was given an honorary Oscar in 1986 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Bellamy died at St. John's Hospital and Health Center in Los Angeles of a lung ailment at the age of 87 at 2:18 a.m.

Ralph Bellamy and Charlie Farrell made only one film together in their long careers, the largely forgotten 1932 Western Wild Girl, but their names belong together in our valley’s history.
Bellamy studied recordings of Roosevelt’s speeches, worked with paraplegics at the institution where FDR had learned to use his crutches and his braces, and met with members of the Roosevelt family.

Ralph Bellamy, the well-known stage and film "character" actor, began his career in 1922 when he joined a traveling troupe of Shakespearean players.
In a career that spanned six decades on stage and screen, Bellamy played roles that fell into three broad categories: 1) the rich, reliable, but dull figure who is jilted by the leading lady, 2) the detective who always finds his prey, and 3) the slightly sinister but stylish villain.
Bellamy guided the Actors' Equity through the political fllisting of the McCarthy era by forming a panel that established ground rules to protect members against unproved charges of Communist Party membership or sympathy.
