Ralph Emery Boi   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Ralph gathered many of the Legends in Country Music to come to Ryman Auditorium, sit and tell stories, sing their hit songs, and songs that they loved to sing before they were Legends.
Though Ralph Emery’s career has been one that he will be able to reflect on and hopefully know that he achieved, accomplished and directed many positive changes in Country Music, Ralph says that the biggest thrill of his career was the night Barbara Mandrell pulled off her grand coup.
Emery had been told the cast, the largest ever assembled in country music history, was there for a tribute to their own industry and was not told that he was the honoree, until taping began.

Emery clearly stated that he wanted to bring 'style' or 'respect' to the genre, commenting that in urban America country music is seen as "redneck" music for the un-educated.
Emery's vision, from what i've read, was to showcase country singers as witty and topical/informed as the pop artists seemed to be.
You must understand that in Ralph's profession he has to put up with a lot of BS from his bosses, advertisers, record labels, critics, etc. A person who has to deal with that, at the same time doing a job they love to do, it tends to dampen the 'mood' a little bit.

He can be counted on to note the titles and peak chart positions of his subjects' hits, and the awards they have won (he's of course very big on awards), though he apparently never heard a song, hit or obscurity, that fired him up.
