Ralph Phillip Klein MLA (born November 1, 1942), leader of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives, is current premier of the Canadian province of Alberta.
Klein made the transition from civic to provincial politics, becoming a member of the legislative assembly for the riding of Calgary Elbow in the 1989 general election.
Klein was re-elected for a fourth term in the 2004 provincial election held on November 22, 2004 with a reduced majority, as he only won 47% of the vote, and only 62 out of the 83 ridings.

While it is true that Klein has reduced the amount of subsidies given to corporations, he has also drastically reduced the amount of taxes they pay, so the net flow of money from the province to the businessmen has not decreased in the slightest.
Klein assured us many times that he was not going to allow private American-style health care into Alberta, but he still encouraged Hotel de Health to set up shop here.

Well guys, he wasn't scolding Ralph over this, it was over his plans to continue to download to private providers despite the findings in this study.
This study shows that healthcare can be provided efficiently and effectively through the public system (the use of some private doctors and clinics was incidental and not the main cause of the sucess - it could easily have been done in totally public and still achieved the results).
I for one can honestly congratulate Ralph and the Alberta government for a job well done in this study and still criticize it for still wanting to download to the provably more expensive and lower quality private system.
