While Deputy prime minister L K Advani's 'rath' is crisscrossing the country, another 'rath', that of his BJP colleague and union petroleum and natural gas minister Ram Naik, hit the road in the country’s third largest Lok Sabha constituency recently.
Naik contested for the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1989, when the population was 15 lakh.
Known as 'Rambhau' to his voters and colleagues, Naik is remembered in Mumbai for his work to improve the sub-urban railway network and infrastructure of the metropolis.

NEW DELHI: Former Petroleum Minister in the National Democratic Alliance Government Ram Naik knew as early as July 2002 that the then Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was asking for a surcharge on oil coupons under the oil-for-food programme controlled by the United Nations as part of the sanctions regime against Iraq.
Naik could not explain why other Indian companies were not expected by the NDA Government to follow what was considered a good ethical position for Indian Oil — that is refusal of the oil coupons.
Naik demanded a change of the terms of reference for the Pathak Authority inquiring into the scandal and a rigorous investigation into the alleged oil deals done in the name of Natwar Singh and the Congress party.
