Swami Rama Tirtha, previously known as Gossain Tirtha Rama, was born in 1873, at Murariwala, a village in the district of Gujranwala, Punjab, India.
Swami Rama Tirtha, a direct descendant of Gosain Tulsi Das, the immortal author of the widely read Hindi Ramayan, was born in 1873, at Muraliwala, in the district of Gujranwala, Punjab.
Rama Tirtha infused in the minds of people a new joy, a happy conviction that it was not for nothing that we lived in a miserable earth, and that we did not, after a long struggle in the sea of life, reach a waterless desert where our sorrows would be repeated.

Rama II is a novel by Gentry Lee and Arthur C. Clarke first published in 1989.
Rama II is the first novel of the "new" Rama series, as Rendezvous with Rama is not always counted as part of it.
Rama II brings new characters into a new story arc mostly unrelated to the original and largely is a setup for its own sequels.

The "Rama" of the title is the starship, which is initially mistaken for an asteroid and named after the Hindu deity Rama.
Rama is, in design, similar to an O'Neill habitat, with a large cylindrical interior that rotates to provide approximately one gee of artificial gravity.
The initial search program that detects Rama in the first two chapters of the book, Project Spaceguard, is a program to detect near-Earth objects on Earth-impact trajectories, initiated after a fictional disastrous asteroid strikes Italy on September 11, 2077, destroying Padua and Verona, and sinking Venice.

The Rama series consists of one volume by Arthur C. Clarke, Rendezvous With Rama (1973), and three volumes co-authored with Gentry Lee, Rama II (1989), The Garden of Rama (1991), and Rama Revealed (1994).
Since one of the only things that is discovered about the makers of Rama, as the craft is baptized, is that they do things in threes, the end suggests that two more craft may appear.
The areas that are explored in depth are the more melodramatic experiences of the second group of explorers, who are left behind in the second Rama craft, and the political and social consequences of the discovery of life in the universe.

Clarke’s few drawbacks, and it is apparent in the original Rendezvous with Rama, the story of humanity’s first encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence, in the form of a mysterious and apparently derelict alien spacecraft.
It wouldn’t hurt to subtitle it, “The Adventures of Nicole des Jardins.” In fact, I wonder whether some of the problems male readers have with these books stems from difficulty identifying with the female main character, whose central concerns for much of her life are her children.
In contrast, Lee’s “gritty cynicism” worldview dominates much of the background and the middle part of the story, in which the most base and regrettable characteristics of humanity are showcased again and again as the human colony gradually destroys the paradise that was created for them.

I selected "Rendezvous With Rama" as one of the novels for my first Science Fiction class as an example of the "hard science" sub-genre of the field even though it is admittedly atypical.
The other three books were co-written by Clarke with Gentry Lee and essentially they answer the questions raised by "Rendezvous With Rama." However, I liked the way this novel ended, with the explorers convinced the glass was half empty at best because of their inability to understand everything they found inside Rama.
