Many small settlements throughout ancient Israel were abandoned at about the same period, their populations swelling the citizenry of the first urban centers to appear in this region.
When Baasha, the king of Israel, encroached on the territory of Judah, Asa of Judah bribed the king of Damascus to invade northern Israel.
Asa then called up the people of Judah for corvee labor and fortified Mizpah and Geba with the materials Baasha had brought to fortify Ramah.

Mizpah was fortified by Asa, king of Judah, with materials which Baasha, king of Israel, had used to fortify Ramah (1 Kings 15:22; 2 Chronicles 16:6).
From this passage we also learn that the place was an ancient sanctuary--"for in Mizpah there was a place of prayer aforetime for Israel."
Mizpah was the scene of memorable assembly in a day of sore anxiety for Judah, when Judas Maccabeus called the warriors of Judah together for counsel and prayer (1 Macc 3:46).

Ephraim was the tribe of the hereditary monarchy in Israel, and any reference to Ephraim is a reference to the monarchy (note the equivalency with 'Judah's rulers' and the explicit reference to the royal house in the opening passage of the segment).

 Ramoth - Enpsychlopedia
Ramoth is the name of several places in ancient Israel:
"Ramoth of the south" (1 Samuel 30:27) appearently refers to "Ramah of the south" or Baalath-Beer in Joshua 19:8.
Ramoth is also the name of the gold dragon in Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books that is ridden by the Benden Weyerlady Lessa.
