Plaque commemorating the grant is held by Janet Banfield, Chairperson of Our Ramara, and Leila Sherriff of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, while Alex Caffary, President of the Ramara Chamber of Commerce and John Pugsley of the Ontario Trillium Foundation look on approvingly.
The Our Ramara coalition of community partners was fored in 2003 when the Chamber of Commerce, Ramara Township Public Library and the Township of Ramara identified an information gap in the community.
The idea for a community-wide festival came as a spin-off as hard-working volunteers explored new ways to unite and inform residents of Ramara, as well as visitors, about the exciting events, activities and organizations that oeprate within the township.

We will leave this topic by reminding the Ontario government of the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, because you might get it." We have observed many conflicts with the siting of new livestock barns throughout Ontario, and many groups opposed to these barns have indicated the need for nutrient management legislation.
Recommendation 8: that a provincial inventory be compiled and made available to generators of nutrient material of the existing soil quality of farmland in Ontario, the types of nutrient material that are appropriate to apply in those areas and how much nutrient material is being generated in the province.

 News in Our Ramara
A group of local citizens are showing leadership by stepping forward to mobilize their community with the help of the Government of Canada.
The Our Ramara coalition was launched in 2003 to fill a need identified by the community for an all-inclusive information source about the area.
So far, the coalition which includes the Ramara Chamber of Commerce, the Public Library and numerous community groups has compiled a database of over 500 businesses, clubs and organizations within the Township.

 The Railways of Canada Archives -- Canada Calling December 1999
Steelcare of nearby Stoney Creek is constructing the facility and shall operate the steel transfer and storage facility in partnership with the railway, whose eastern subsidiary, the St. Lawrence and Hudson Railway (StLandH), provides daily train service connecting Hamilton with the North American railway network.
Ontario Northland Railway union representatives are pleading to the province of Ontario to help save the Northlander passenger train service which operates six days a week from Cochrane to Toronto.
Ontario Northland's board is now examining the various options and will present them to the provincial government sometime in November.

The Township of Ramara Public Library Board is pleased to announce that it was one of 214 libraries in small communities across Ontario to share $2 million of Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grants.
The library, in collaboration with the Ramara Chamber of Commerce, the Township of Ramara and many other community partners, will provide residents of Ramara and beyond, with a comprehensive database all, for and about Ramara.
The goal is to provide access to Ramara information for everyone, which will help build a healthier, stronger community.

 Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition
In April 2003, the Ramara Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Ramara Public Library and spearheaded an initiative to develop such a unique database of information.
Early on, a presentation was made to the Ramara Council and the municipality has supported the initiative by sending a permanent representative to all meetings.
The "Our Ramara" Coalition is currently planning the development and maintenance of their web site and is meeting with service clubs and other organizations to possibly host an event for all of Ramara.
