Rambler (automobile) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rambler was an automobile brand name used by the Thomas B. Jeffery Company between 1900 and 1914, then by its successor, Nash Motors in 1950, and finally by Nash's successor, American Motors Corporation from 1954 to 1969.
Rambler introduced such early technical innovations as a steering wheel (as opposed to a tiller), interchangeable wheels and spare tires.
In 1962 the Ambassador was officially brought under the Rambler name (it had previously been the "Ambassador by Rambler"), and the former Rambler Six and Rebel V8 were renamed the Rambler Classic.

AMC Ambassador - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The vehicle was known as the AMC Ambassador, Ambassador by Rambler, and Rambler Ambassador at various times during its tenure in production.
The 1962 Ambassador emerged as a well-appointed Rambler Classic, trimmed from the 117" wheelbase of 1961 down to the 1962 Classic's 108", and the line included a two-door pillared sedan for the first time.
Also in 1967, AMC shifted its fastback Rambler Marlin, rechristened as the AMC Marlin in 1966, to the longer Ambassador chassis and restyled body.

 The Rambler Years
For 1961 the Rambler series was renamed the Classic (possibly to avoid confusion and create stronger model identity, since the company's whole line of cars was by then known as Ramblers).
At first it was called the "Ambassador by Rambler," rather than simply the Rambler Ambassador, but it was always based closely on the intermediate Rambler/Classic/Rebel/Matador platform, usually with a wheelbase stretch (the extra inches were always ahead of the firewall, which provided few practical benefits but usually made the Ambassadors look and ride better).
Basically a Classic with an extreme fastback roof (here's an amazing bird's-eye view), the Marlin was too big and underpowered to compete as a pony car, and somewhat impractical as a family car; production reached 10,327 for 1965 but dropped to 4,547 the next year.

Rambler is also a brand of car that produced by the Nash Kelvinator Corporation and its successor, American Motors Corporation between 1950 and 1969.

Rambler made repeated attempts to enlarge its market niche, with performance cars such as the Rambler Marlin, AMC Javelin, and AMC AMX and luxury cars like the AMC Ambassador, but despite critical approval consumers seemed to consider Rambler only as a manufacturer of economy cars.
