Ramesh Balsekar Biography 1   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Ramesh married to Sharda and a father of three, is known and loved by seekers from around the world as an eloquent Master of Advaita, or Non duality.
Ramesh is widely regarded as undeniably unique and uncompromising in his presentation of the concepts, in keeping with an early premonitory remark by Maharaj that as a teacher Ramesh would not be "parroting" the words of his Guru.
However, on studying Balsekar's writings, we soon realized that he was teaching an unusual and possibly idiosyncratic form of Advaita that led to what we felt, quite frankly, were questionable and even disturbing conclusions.

An article on the new age guru, Ramesh Balsekar
Balsekar is not a guru for the masses, but his popularity has been growing among a select band of people in India and abroad, kindled by the seminars he has conducted in the USA and Germany between 1987-93, his annual fortnight-long seminars at Kovalam beach, Kerala, southern India, and his talks.
Balsekar sums up his philosophy in four words: "Thy will be done." This acceptance of the absoluteness of Divine Will is based on the non-duality of Advaita Vedanta.
Balsekar himself, however, says that there is no way to judge if a person is enlightened or not from his behavior.

Ramesh never professes to be a perfect being, he says that the only thing that makes him different from you or me is that he totally accepts what is, and that there are no doers, there are only happenings.
The total situation includes “Ramesh"’s behavior, the response from his female students who are complaining not only about the sex but about the overall quality of their relationship with “Ramesh, “"Ramesh"'s current response and how he will deal with this in the future.
There is nothing wrong with “Ramesh” apologizing directly to his female students and telling them that his understanding had failed him under the circumstances and that he had used his identity as an “enlightened” person as a form of rank in order to secure sexual favors from them.

And the earlier Ramesh did not do this, at least when I visited at his home in Bombay in 1988 (incidentally, his wife Sarada was one fine cook and would hospitably, freely share the delicious fruits of her culinary labors with a visiting friend and myself!).
When Ramesh (or Wayne or anyone) presumes to play the role of Guru, he is adopting a "one-up" power position, and that power, if it is to be held and maintained (and not relinquished in an egalitarian way, as the best teachers know how to do) must be honored in the most sacred, careful way.
