This became clear today as Ramesh Krishnan, who has led the team with a quiet passion and considerable distinction, confirmed that he was giving up the job he so enjoyed doing.
Ramesh, who led the team to four successive World Group playoff round matches in his years at the helm, wrote to the Secretary of the All India Tennis Association, Anil Khanna, expressing his desire to move on and it would appear that the AITA has acceded to his request.
Over the last year, Ramesh has found it difficult to balance his commitment to the national side with his role as a travelling coach/father in nurturing the careers of his two tennis playing daughters.
