Rammellzee   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Rammellzee was born in 1960 in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY.
Rammellzee, aside from being an M.C./Wildstyle visual artist, with works seen around the world, a screen writer and Garbage God cosmologist was also very much an early Hip-Hop pioneer of vocal styles.
Some of which were taught to him by one of his partners from way back, Jamel-Z. Rammellzee is one of hip-hop`s true originals.

Rammellzee (not Rammelzee) was an important player in the initial crossover of hip-hop culture to the mainstream.
Rammellzee employed the "Gangsta Duck" on "Beat Bop," a dense dialogue with K-Rob, nominally produced by the late painter Jean Michel Basquiat, and released on Profile Records.

Rammellzee had a cameo as a drug dealer at the end of Stranger, yet another example of the fruitful early 80's downtown cross fertilization.
The rhymes are mind -bending, with Rammellzee's becoming increasingly stream of conscious and bizarre as the song continues and the drugs kick in.
He returns to the song with attempts to explain the societal and personal factors involved in Rammellzee's character's present situation, "Smoking cheeba in the hall drinking O.E. brew, never want to go to school and that's a fact, then all of sudden you got left back".

And Baudrillard's evocations of syntactical war and magically resonant power-words are reminiscent of New York art-rapper Rammellzee's visions of alphabetical battle, city streets turned into apocalyptic linguistic hot zones as the lexicon we know is infected and overrun by military-spawned secret letters.
Graffiti, the reinvention of the self as a brand, is the key both to Rammellzee's word-war and to the evolution of branding since Baudrillard first considered it.
Advertising in the 1950s and 1960s was basically exoteric: the barely-concealed connotative meanings that so delighted and repulsed a generation of cultural studies mavens were powerful because they were instantly comprehensible to all readers and because their meaning did not shift.

The Rammellzee: Bi-Conicals of the Rammellzee - PopMatters Music Review
Rammellzee was easy to peg as the one to buck the trend.
Though it's remarkable that Rammellzee still has a dope flow and fiery creativity all these years later, it's downright astounding that he's managed to hook up with a passel of producers who so effectively blend the raw immediacy of early-'80s downtown experimentalism with modern production prowess.
There's real creativity here rather than simple kitsch-mining, and after a bit of adjustment you'll quickly forget that Rammellzee is not some young turk out for his on a debut album -- because he brings as much passion and innovation as any rapper half his age, and a fingerlick more than most.

One thing that fascinates me about both Rammellzee and Tricky is the deep bitterness they invoke in their work to make their ideas more valid.
The difference between Rammellzee/Tricky mindset and people like me or Carlinhos Brown, Saul Williams, Nalo Hopkinson, and Kodwo Eshun, is the sense of looking to a future where different values can co-exist within a dynamic and relatively positive framework.
Maybe this is why more "gangsta stuff" (a la Rammellzee on the art tip, or Tricky and RZA's new Bobby Digital persona) is easily accessible to white audiences while bridging some sort of wish fulfilment in fl audiences as well.
