Lewis insisted on a live sound, complete with handclaps and exclamations, an infectious translation of a fl church feel into pop.
Lewis had an astute ear for hip, commercial sounds: his replacement drummer Maurice White left in 1971 to found the platinum mega-sellers Earth, Wind And Fire.
Lewis never recaptured this commercial peak; he attempted to woo his audience by using synthesizers and disco rhythms, and continued securing Billboard Top 100 hits well into the 70s.

Ramsey Lewis has long straddled the boundary between bop-oriented jazz and pop music.
On the 1965 albums The In Crowd and Hang On, Ramsey made the pianist into a major attraction and from that point, on his records became much more predictable and pop-oriented.
In the 1970s, Lewis often played electric piano, although by later in the decade he was sticking to acoustic and hiring an additional keyboardist.

And I'm sure that many people just remember it as Ramsey's album alone, not the trio's, as Ramsey went on to be a star, a lot of people forgot about the original trio and most remember his more fusion stuff with electric synthesizers.
If you are a die-hard Ramsey Lewis Trio freek like I am, then you'll agree this is not their best album, they've got better one's out there like Pot Luck, In Chicago, and Gentlemen of Jazz and Swing, but for newcomers to The Lewis Trio and jazz, they'll absolutely love this album.
Ramsey Lewis is on the Mark with this set.His Playing is solid all the way here.He has had other moments but this set really captures His Talent Best.a Must have.
