  Randolph Farms Landfill - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Randolph Farms Landfill is a 120 acre (486,000 m²) landfill owned by the Balkema family of Kalamazoo, Michigan, located in Randolph County, Indiana.
The owners of the landfill are presently (as of June 22, 2004), petitioning the Randolph County Board of Zoning Appeals to allow for an expansion, nearly three times its current size, in order that the landfill continue operation for another 50 years.
Randolph Farms was built on a limestone hill, directly over sand and gravel aquifers, near the drainage basins of White River and Whitewater River.

For those of you in Randolph County, IDEM announced yesterday that public comment will be accepted tonight at 7PM at the commissioner’s conference room on Randolph Farms, Inc.’s application to expand its landfill:
The public is invited to a public meeting and hearing concerning an application for a permit modification for lateral expansion of the Randolph Farms Landfill at County Road 600 South, ½ mile east of State Road 1, in Randolph County.
Randolph Farms, Inc. submitted the permit modification application to IDEM in January of 2005.

Randolph Farms Landfill, which disposes of much of the trash in East Central Indiana, has been granted permission by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management for a major expansion.
The permit allows Randolph Farms — owned by the Balkema family of Kalamazoo, Mich. — to add 41.4 acres for landfilling north of the existing 113.7-acre landfill.
The landfill is going in near where some friends of mine live.

The other two exceedences were both detected at one other landfill (Peabody); one was from a sample taken from a groundwater diversion manhole and the other was from a sample taken from a private well.
However, this well is located cross-gradient from the landfill and it is unlikely that the mercury in the well was derived from the landfill.

 Winchester News-Gazette: Winchester council approves Wal-Mart rezoning
City council also approved the rezoning of six acres, formerly the John Deere property, on County Road 100 East, east of town- from C-3 (commercial) to M-2 (manufacturing) to create a collection center for items to be recycled.
The rezoning was requested by Randolph Farms, Inc., to establish a recycling center to be called East Central Recycling.
Randolph Farms Manager Gary Fine said items to be recycled will be collected at the site, but no processing will be done at the local facility.

The inspection at ERSI Landfill, a demolition debris landfill that was not cited, began at 6 a.m.
The paper, which is on file at the Wyoming Valley Historical Society, documents the 90-year history of the mine fire; the 1,000 degree (Fahrenheit) temperatures associated with the mine fire; the buyout and relocation of approximately 800 residents; and the work by state and federal mine agencies to contain the fire.
Randolph's research documented the start of the fire in a coal vein at the Red Ash Mine in 1915.
