His biggest success was the pop hit "Just When I Needed You Most" in 1979.
VanWarmer wrote several songs for the group The Oak Ridge Boys including "I Guess It Never Hurts To Hurt Sometimes." The song appeared on VanWarmer's 1981 album Beat Of Love.

I remember Randy Vanwarmer (or Randy Van as we knew him)when he played in a duo with Roger Moss in the folk clubs in Cornwall, England, in 1974, including the Cooking Pot folk club in Par run by Rog and Gill Butler aka Chucklefoot(he resided in Looe).

The Nashville music industry is mourning the loss of Randy VanWarmer, who enjoyed success as a pop artist before becoming a successful country songwriter.
VanWarmer, 48, died Monday (Jan. 12) at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle following a yearlong battle with leukemia.
He is best known for his 1979 pop hit, "Just When I Needed You Most." A Colorado native, VanWarmer lived in England, New York City and Los Angeles before moving to Nashville in 1985.

After a long battle with leukemia, VanWarmer died in Seattle on January 12, 2004.
