 | | The National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the primary professional organization of mathematics teachers, recommends a math program that focuses on the development of numerical, algebraic, geometric, and statistical concepts that enable students to formulate, analyze and solve problems efficiently. |
 | | The main goal of the Laurel Sixth Grade mathematics program is to bring closure to many of the topics begun in earlier grades, and to build maturity, confidence, and problem-solving skills with all the previously introduced content. |
 | | The content strands that are attended to throughout the program include data collection, rational number uses and operations, scientific notation, algebra and the uses of variables, geometry and spatial sense, geometric constructions, patterns, rules and formulas, problem solving and mathematical modeling, and algorithms and procedures. |
