Rangi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Polynesian mythology (specifically: Maori), Rangi is the sky father, husband of the Earth Mother, Papa.
They had many children, but their embrace (as the Earth and the sky) threatened to crush plants, trees and their offspring, so the other gods (or just Tangaroa) separated them and light first appeared between them.
Fog is said to be the sighs of loneliness of Papa, while the dew is the tears of Rangi.

Based on the regular tastings I hold each year, Ata Rangi is not only the most consistent Pinot Noir in the country, but also the finest from Martinborough.
One interesting feature of Ata Rangi Pinot Noir is that the wine is made along the Bordeaux model of carefully selecting and blending the best wine and it is not a small parcel, single plot wine, as is common in Burgundy.
On the basis of this tasting, Ata Rangi should not be broached until at least three or four years of age, but the best vintages have the potential to keep and develop savoury complexity for up to eight years.
