Minneapolis ranked tenth among the 50 largest American metropolitan areas in terms of transitioning to the Information Age according to a study conducted by Progressive Policy Institute and Case Western Reserve University’s Regional Economic Issues.
In its rankings, the study gave the Minneapolis area the lowest scores in the area of “gazelle” jobs (35th) and job churning (45th), the later category being the number of new start-ups and business failures, combined, as a share of all companies in the state.
But it gave the Minneapolis area top ten rankings in the area in the number managerial, professional, and technical jobs in the overall workforce, the amount of technology in use in the schools, the number of high tech jobs, and also the plentifulness of ventura capital.

The 2000 impact factor is calculated by taking the number of all current citations to source items published in a journal over the previous two years and dividing by the number of articles published in the journal during the same period—in other words, a ratio between citations and recent citable items published.
The rankings in the next two columns show impact over longer time spans, based on figures from the ISI Journal Performance Indicators.

The new ranking comes on the heels of another set of rankings earlier this year when U.S. News and World Report magazine ranked the department’s master’s degree in public administration and public policy as being tied for fifth in the country.
The new rankings are significant because most universities in the country have separate departments or schools for political science and public administration, and the rankings by PS did not include the top public administration journals, in which UGA faculty members regularly publish.
Those ranking ahead of the University of Georgia for research productivity in the PS survey were, beginning with the top-ranked school, Cal Tech, the State University of New York at Stone Brook, Rochester, Iowa, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan State, Texas A and M and Stanford.

 FSU again ranked as one of top 10 law schools for Hispanics
For the academic year 2004-2005, Hispanics made up 9 percent of the school's 748-member student body and received 11 percent of the 205 law degrees awarded to the class of 2004.
The magazine surveyed 177 American Bar Association accredited law schools and ranked them based on the percentage of Hispanic students enrolled, the percentage of full-time Hispanic faculty, services for Hispanic students, Hispanic recruitment efforts and retention rates, quality of education and reputation.
Like last year, Florida State's law school was ranked 10th by the magazine.

The University of New Mexico is ranked 5th out of the top 100 federally funded institutions in regard to the impact of materials science papers over the years 1996-2000 by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).

The College of Architecture at Texas A&M University was recently ranked 10th nationally by the Almanac of Architecture and Design.
One of the reasons for the ranking includes its requirement that each student spend a semester away from the A&M campus in order to earn their undergraduate degree.
Students may satisfy this with an internship, a work abroad or out-of-state position, a co-op program or a study abroad course through A&M. Students from the College of Architecture are working and studying all over the world this summer in places such as Guatemala, Hong Kong, Australia, Greece and Thailand.
