  UI is ranked 20th best U.S. public national university
The University of Iowa is tied for 20th place among the best public national universities in the country, according to the latest rankings published by the magazine U.S. News and World Report.
Sharing the 20th spot on the magazine's influential 2003 "Top 50 Public National Universities -- Doctoral" list with the University of Iowa are Purdue University, Rutgers University -- New Brunswick and the University of Minnesota.
The UI's tie for 20th place compares to a ranking of 24th last year, 20th in 2001, 21st in 2000 and 26th in 1999.

In the specialty rankings, based upon nominations by business school deans and heads of MBA programs, the Krannert School ranked 12th in management information systems, 20th in general management, 20th in marketing and 28th in accounting.
The Department of Computer Sciences ranked 20th in the country, a tie with Columbia University, Duke University, Harvard University and the University of California at San Diego.
Other doctoral programs in mathematics also ranked among the top: Purdue's overall mathematics program was ranked 26th in the country and the program in applied mathematics ranked 27th.

Seven of the University Medical Center's divisions are ranked in the top 50 in the nation, according to the upcoming July 18 "America's Best Hospitals" issue of U.S. News and World report.
The endocrinology division was the University's highest ranked at sixth in the nation, followed by ear, nose and throat ranked at 20th and urology at 22nd.
In addition to rating aspects of the entire hospital system, the rankings are based off the number of faculty, how much money is devoted to research projects and areas covered in the variety of diseases in which members of the faculty are experts.

Undergraduate Program Ranked 20th in the U.S. The University of Iowa is the 19th best public national university in the country, according to the latest rankings published by the magazine U.S. News & World Report.
The magazine also ranked undergraduate programs in business, where the UI's Henry B. Tippie College of Business was ranked 20th among public universities, up from 29th last year.
UI President David J. Skorton said that the rankings are one more measure of the UI's reputation as a great national university and as a leader in teaching and research.

Georgia is one of six schools in the Southeast ranked in the top 20 and joins Georgia Tech, ranked eighth, as the only schools from the state of Georgia on the list.

This year’s edition of the Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News and World Report ranked the college in the top 20 in the nation in eight of 10 ranked education specialties as well as one allied health specialty (rehabilitation counseling, last ranked in 2003).
