Epaphroditus Ransom (March 24, 1798–November 9, 1859) was Governor and Michigan Supreme Court justice from the U.S. state of Michigan.
Ransom was the first governor to be inaugurated in Lansing, Michigan, after the state capitol moved there from Detroit.
He served as regent for the University of Michigan, 1850 to 1852 and was a co-founder of the village of Augusta, Michigan.

 Ransom C. Myers (1842 - 1897)
Ransom's first military engagement was at the Corinth, Mississippi, an important railroad crossroads for the Confederacy, where the Union Army besieged the rebel troops and skirmished almost constantly before the Confederates withdrew.
Ransom was enlisted as a Sergeant with the 10th Cavalry and, beginning in 1863, his unit fought primarily in Eastern Tennessee.
Many years later, Ransom's oldest son, who was a little boy in 1865, told the story of seeing his one-armed father riding his horse on their dusty road, returning to his farm near Fostoria.

In 1815 James Fiske married Eleanor Ransom, the mother of President Fiske, at the home of her birth on the highlands opposite Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The son went to Michigan with his parents in 1835, settling at Coldwater, on a farm.
Evidently anticipating the need of speaking to the people of Michigan on the subject of the establishment of the Agricultural College, and the purpose underlying the legislation creating it, he was not unprepared when requested by the House of Representatives to address that Body.
At a Commencement dinner at the University of Michigan, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the medical college, he was one of the principal speakers.
