It is also equally possible that a certain stretch of the West Rapti river itself be used in place of canal to reduce the total length of the distributary.

Gorakhpur (UP), June 8 (PTI): Water level in major rivers of eastern Uttar Pradesh, including the Rapti and Ghaghra, is rising due to heavy rains in catchment areas and the flow in many of them is hovering around the danger mark, according to the Central Water Commission.
The river Rapti is flowing at 72.0 metre, which is four metres below the danger mark.
Heavy rain was recorded this week in Basti and Gorakhpur divisions resulting in the rise of water level in Ghaghra, Rohini, Rapti, and Burhi Rapti rivers.
