Capacity Building Capacity building must be seen as crucial for the objectives of the project: the extension of small-scale loans to the rural populations of the Rasht Valley and Khatlon region.
Though the JDCs are more familiar with the RF in the Rasht Valley, they still require additional training on loan management.

Garm, written as Гарм in Tajik, is a district in the Rasht Valley area of central Tajikistan.
In the 1920s, during the reorganization of borders in Central Asia, a Garm oblast was created out of the old Qarategin and Darvaz, districts of Bukhara.
The Garm Oblast consisted of much of the Qarategin Valley, as well as the district of Kalai-Khumb.

In parts of Tajikistan, as much as two meters of snow had accumulated over the course of two weeks.
Heavy snowfall and over 100 avalanches in the Rasht Valley region of Tajikistan has killed as many as nine people, buried at least 17 homes (in the village of Degdonak), stranded hundreds of vehicles, and caused the roofs of homes and public buildings to collapse (OCHA, IFRC, ReliefWeb map).
Besides the Rasht Valley, avalanches have been reported primarily in the Varzob Valley, the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast in the southeast, and the Khatlon region in the south.

I will be working for over half a year in the Rasht Valley and my job will be taking me to some of the more remote areas of the country.
The country is already pretty remote considering the limited number of flights in to the capital, Dushanbe, and its geographic location.
It appears that Barf’s PR person knew the pleasure that foreigners would get from its name and in an attempt to diminish their enjoyment they put “Barf mean snow.” There you go kids, Tajik lesson #1.
