IGN: The Horror Geek Speaks: Rasputin the Mad Monk
While Rasputin is primarily a historical drama (albeit one that plays fast and loose with the historical facts of the tale), it also has its share of horrific moments.
Rasputin was shot at the same time as Dracula: Prince of Darkness and shares much of the cast and sets (in fact, if you look closely enough, you'll spot what sets were re-used in each film).
Ultimately, Rasputin: The Mad Monk isn't one of Hammer's best films—it's a little light on the horror elements, it doesn't really stick to the historical facts, and even the death of Rasputin (which is what most people remember about the man) is truncated to an unsatisfyingly short length.

Rasputin (Christopher Lee), a monk living in Czarist Russia, leads an outward life of religious devotion which masks his true nature: a bestial, murdering lout who uses his mysterious powers of hypnotism and his gift for healing as tools of manipulation.
However, political forces begin to brew and conspire to bring an end to the monk's subversive reign.
Conveying all the blood and thunder one would expect from a "golden age" Hammer Film, Rasputin barely qualifies as a horror film per se but includes a number of grisly elements, such as a hand amputation and acid in the face (a very popular '60s act of cinematic violence).
