Gyro Gearloose is a fictional character, a chicken created by Carl Barks for the Walt Disney company who originally appeared in the comic books as a friend of Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck and anyone who is associated with them.
Some of Gyro's relatives include his father Fulton Gearloose, his grandfather Ratchet Gearloose, and Newton Gearloose, his nephew.
In some stories Gyro's primary rival is Emil Eagle although he is also antagonized by the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell.

There are so far never told anything at all about Ratchet or any other members of the Gearloose family before he appear in Louisville, Kentucky in 1880 as a seller of water cleansing pills.
Ratchet continued to work onboard the Dollar until it blew up in 1882 and Scrooge left the riverboat business.
Whatever happened to Ratchet after his trip to Java in 1883 is still unknown, but he probably married and moved to Duckburg where his son Fulton appeared as one of the very first members of The Junior Woodchucks in 1902.

In Gyro's First Invention Don Rosa shows that Fulton Gearloose was a repairman who used to repair anything for people, and that he had a workshop in Duckburg which he ran until he handed it over to his son, Gyro in 1952.
His involvement with The Junior Woodchucks is also shown in the Junior Woodchucks museum in he beginning of Guardians of the Lost Library where he is mentioned as the "inventor of the Junior Woodchucks merit badge".

3) In Brazil Gyro Gearloose is known just as "Professor Pardal", where "Pardal" is not considered as a family name, it's actually his *first* name, something like "Professor Gyro".
So, "Neco Pardal" (a double first name, also common in Brazil) can't be (technically) translated to "Neco Gearloose", or "Manuel Gearloose" or whatever, as I wrongly stated.
Well, after that, I still think Neco Pardal is not Ratchet's father (a Carl Barks character!!).

That tale told of $crooge's old riverboat days on the Dilly Dollar with his first mate Ratchet Gearloose (Gyro's grandfather).
The Dilly Dollar's smokestacks are still damaged in the 1882 segment of this tale, as they were in the Barks story that I was using as a springboard.
