Rationalisation in the SANDF: The Next Challenge - African Security Review Vol 6 No 2, 1997
Rationalisation is inevitably a painful and often traumatic experience for the individuals concerned.
In terms of the rate at which the process of rationalisation is progressing the most important problem to overcome is the availability of a final force structure indicating the correct numbers and mustering of personnel needed to support the SANDF force design.
Furthermore, due to the emotional sensitivity and the social effect of rationalisation, a vast number of role players are involved in the clarification of the processes which must be followed during rationalisation.

Freehills - Article - Award rationalisation and the Award Review Taskforce — Implications for employers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
The rationalisation process will affect the content of federal awards, the scope of their coverage, and a consolidation of existing wages and classification structures.
Award-free employers: rationalisation may involve extending coverage of existing awards to employers who are not currently award covered—that is, imposing award coverage in circumstances where it does not currently exist.
All employers should review the potential for the award rationalisation process to impact their existing terms and conditions or union coverage arrangements as soon as possible to assess whether it may be desirable to make a submission regarding their circumstances.

Jamaica Gleaner - Rationalisation worries students, teachers - Sunday | June 4, 2000
Some students attending teachers' colleges find the Ministry of Education's rationalisation of the teacher's colleges to be highly "unfriendly" them, claiming that it will increase the cost of education.
The rationalisation, which channels student-teachers to schools which offer specialised education instead of a wide range of subjects, has also not made some lecturers at these institutions happy because they see the move as a threat to their jobs.
"Students will have to pay to live elsewhere or increase the costs of their transportation." The rationalisation programme, which starts in September, is aimed at easing the undersubscription of some courses, which had resulted in class sizes of four and five students when an ideal number is 15.

Rationalisation of polling stations in Gulbarga - Deccan Herald   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
Stating this to the press here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez stated that the rationalisation of the polling stations in the district was taken up after taking into account the guidelines of the State Election Commission on increasing the maximum limit of voters from 1,259 to 1,500 for a polling station.
This was because of the decrease in the number of polling stations in urban areas due to the voters density, and clubbing booths that had less than 1,500 voters into a single unit.
A comprehensive rationalisation of polling stations in the district was taken up based on the guidelines framed by the State Election Commission to bring the stations nearer to the voters in the villages.

Asset Rationalisation is generally achieved by first identifying assets that can be disposed and then investigating alternative options that provide the existing level of service.
The advantage of Asset Rationalisation to G-MW and its customers is that the cost of an Asset Rationalisation proposal would be less than the cost of replacement or refurbishment of the assets involved, and is therefore cost effective.

Many of the issues that arise in the rationalisation of the various federal awards applying to the retail industry will apply in relation to the various counterpart State awards and the rationalisation of the State awards should be considerably assisted by the work undertaken to rationalise the federal awards.
Award rationalisation of these two awards would appear to be desirable in so far as it allows a clear delineation between the CFMEU Timberworker’s coverage of manufacturing and of timber processing, and the SDA’s coverage of the retail industry with its particular application to retailers of hardware and timber products.
Once the rationale for these different rates of pay in the various company specific consent awards is understood it becomes apparent that there is only one baseline for the determination of a shop assistant workers rate of pay and that is the SEP determination of a 92.4% relativity with a metal fitter.

Rationalisation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-30)
For Max Weber, one of the major characteristics of modern society was the process of rationalisation.
This involved institutions (such as work) and practices becoming increasingly well-organised and highly-efficient (or bureaucratic - a form of organisation involving distinct roles, a clear hierarchy of authority, consistent rules applied to decision-making, etc.).
In addition, each supermarket is physically organised to "process people" as efficiently as possible - from the moment they come through the doors (to be greeted by fresh vegetables and the smell of freshly-baked bread) to the moment they leave.

 Desam urge cooperation in teachers rationalisation : 05th feb05 ~ E-Pao! Headlines
Highlighting that rationalisation of teachers had become indispensable in addressing the teacher shortage problem faced by the student community, Desam called upon the teachers having political clout as well as Ministers to refrain from scuttling the process in the interest of the students.
Charging that previous proposals to implement the teacher rationalisation process had been derailed due to political infringement and hobnobbing by some influential teachers, the student body said such ploy would not be tolerated this time around.
The rationalisation process will not only pave the way for such helpless teachers to stay under the same roof as their families but could also provide a rare opportunity of enjoying home-cooked food, observed Desam.
