Ratt   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Ratt's music was influenced by 1970s hard rock and glam rock bands such as Aerosmith, Sweet, Led Zeppelin and KISS.
Ratt's version was a nod to Aerosmith, who had included a cover of the song on their influential first album in 1973.
It also became the first Ratt album to not achieve platinum sales status and was instead certified gold, and the fact that it was released on the eve of the grunge explosion in the early 1990's may be the main reason for that.

Still, as good-time '80s metal with a hint of pop about it, Ratt were on the same rung as Motley Crue, and at the end of the day, that puts them pretty darn close to the top.

The eponymous title evidently signals that this is a new beginning for Ratt -- even if there's only one new member, bassist Robbie Crane -- and it is, to a certain extent.
The worst thing is, it's possible to hear where Ratt wants to go with Ratt -- how they still want to rock but not rock out, how they want to have melodies and intriguing sonic textures -- but the record just lays there.

Ratt : The Essentials - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
It's hard to believe nowadays that there was a time during the 1980s when Ratt was one of the biggest rock bands in the U.S. -- challenging the likes of Mötley Crüe for the top of the glam metal mountain.
Like the Crüe, Ratt combined anthemic hard rock with pop hooks, and also followed the same dress code (heavy on the makeup and hair spray).
The only track that should have been included that is mysteriously absent is the early composition/band standard "You Think You're Tough," which prevents the Ratt edition of The Essentials from being definitive.

I was absolutely shocked at the amount of dressed-up '80s fans were there proudly wearing RATT and Poison T-shirts and reveling in the glam metal-ness.
RATT was actually the third band up after LA Guns and Great White, since I had no interest nor musical likeness for these bands, I'll just skip right on over them; besides, for a lack of a better description, they sucked (well, "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" was cool to listen to).
I was really looking forward to RATT and couldn't wait to see them live as they were one of my favorite '80s GlamRocker bands (see previous article here).

Pearcy valiantly and somewhat successfully attempted to fill Crosby's shoes on "Back For More" and the new song "Ratt Madness," but on songs like the linear "You're In Love" and the rampaging "Body Talk," the guitarless Pearcy's shredded baritone was the only reminder of days gone by.
\\Ratt was all for drumming up the past, performing only two songs from their first new album in seven years, "Collage." The dated, bland and uninspired Bobby Blotzer drum solo tacked onto the end of "Lack of Communication" confirmed Ratt's faulty allegiance to the decline of Western civilization.
